I wonder if anyone here read the ESPN article on Hinkie the other day...

I remember from the thread when he walked away that most people here are strongly against Hinkie. Wondering if that is shifting at all in retrospect now that it's a little more clear that the future of this team looks very bright?

I read it and have been a Hinkie fan since day one. I shudder at the thought of Colangelo putting his mark on the team.

Give BC a chance. So far - so good.

Not screwing up the draft is one thing. Signing Proven Veterans (TM) to overpriced deals is a very Colangelo thing to do. I don't understand the desperateness to get to mediocre, when clearly there is a strong foundation now. Let the young kids learn and build together. He needs to avoid trying to skip a step, I was hoping he learned from that huge mistake in Toronto but all reports out there are Colangelo is desperate to use cap space now.

And you believe all the media reports? "All reports"? Give him a chance to prove if he's going to be good or not.

They key to this whole thing imo is a healthy Embiid. A trio of he, Simmons and Daric is a great starting point to a team that could grow together into a contender. I think the trade that has a realistic chance of happening is Noel for Ricky Rubio. Rubio's not the ideally the shooter you want to pair with Simmons, but he's an excellent passer and is a very solid defender who's always up there with the steal leaders. With the Wolves now having Kris Dunn ... it would be best to get something for Rubio while they can. Even though they are trying to sell playing Dunn and Rubio together, it doesn't make much sense as neither are good shooters. The Sixers can compliment Rubio by landing Allen Crabbe in free agency (I don't care if they have to overpay for him).

PG Rubio - Main ball handler - plays solid D
SG Crabbe - Main source of outside shooting; can also drive
SF Simmons - Drive and dish man - top rebounding skills from a 3
PF Saric - Do everything type - plus high IQ - can spread the floor with range
C Embiid/Okafor - Excellent combo as you can bring Embiid along slowly and Okafor should be better than his rookie season.

*** Rubio/Crabbe are the young vets who can lead the way while also growing with the team.

Given his history of bad contracts to vets and the reports he is looking to do the same with the Sixers, yeah, I tend to believe those. I believe he is the same GM who screwed up in Phoenix and Toronto until he proves otherwise. Can he do so, maybe, but I don't believe he has changed.

Rey, in that roster, we would only have one player who can shoot. Maybe Saric, but we need a SG and a SF who can shoot, or a PG who can shoot.

Tanking for three seasons and then hanging the whole thing on the health of a guy that's never been healthy is foolish. This needs to work without Embiid and then Embiid can be an extra talent we add to an already great roster.

What I meant is that if Embiid is healthy he has the size/talent/ability to develop into a dominant force down low. If he's ready to roll we can become a contender much faster with him than without him.

Man, F the process.

If you can't sign FAs...or even get a meeting with them, the process will take 5+ years for your core guys to develop. Clearly, it doesn't matter how much money you have.

Signing some weak ass FAs doesn't help either.

I'm arguing to get Embiid off the tip of everyone's tongue. He might be less useful than Jerami Grant. The whole thing can't depend on him. He's extra. There are enough assets to build with excluding Embiid. I want a great team built and then Embiid dumped on top of it, not built around him.

Good news Rey - Portland is trying to sign 2 other guys to max contracts, so Crabbe may be available to us!

:hope:

Sixers just signed Jarryd Bayless, formerly Bucks, to a 3 year deal worth $27M. This a good signing, anticipating a deal with Crabbe for $$Big dollars, and hope Portland doesn't match. We'll be set for this upcoming season, and then we draft 2 more Guards next draft. I'm all in if we get Crabbe.
