Centers are OK but no great centers have done anything in more than a decade, for a reason. It's become a perimeter shooter's game.
Thats because there haven't been any great centers in a decade. Dwight Howard is probably the most talented right now but he's got no heart or desire.

Agree, that's why if we take Simmons we have to trade Okafor for someone who can score from the outside. If we trade him to Boston at #3 I'm taking Kentucky's G Jamal Murray without hesitation. Oklahoma G Buddy Hield would be my 2nd choice despite being a little older ... so if we trade Okafor to Pheonix instead, we'de still end up with either Murray or Hield. I wouldn't stop there though ... I'm going strong after Allen Crabbe from Portland. You add one of Murray/Hield as well as Crabbe who can play the 2 or the 3 and your shooting improves significantly. Not to mention Embiid who's an excellent shooting Center with range.
Why do you like Murray over Dunn?

I like Murray over Dunn because in their respective first seasons Murray scored 20 a game with 45%/40%/78% and 5 boards and 2 assists while Dunn scored 5.7 a game with 40%/29%/69% 5 boards and 3 assists. Dunn is the better defender, but this team needs scoring on the wings and Murray can easily play the two guard and should have the shooting to do that. I also dislike seeing a team taking guards that didn't start to dominate in college until they were 2-3 years older than most of their competition (see Evan Turner).

Dunn can't shoot ... in today's NBA your Guards better be able to hit J's. Murray's great going either left or right and he has a great shooting stroke. Plus if we're taking Simmons at 1 like most expect, I want to surround him with guys who can shoot. If he's running a point forward position we need guys who can hit their J's when he drives and dishes.

Now, if by some chance we flip the script and take Ingram, plus add Allen Crabbe in free agency then I might swing to Dunn as he is the better slasher/distributor. It all depends on the scenario.

I think Murray can even play PG, from what I've heard. Agree/Disagree?

It's written by Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress which is one of the top NBA draft sites. So, basically a draftnik type like Mel Kiper or Mike Mayock, but yes, obviously way way down on Simmons.

The reason I want Ingram over Simmons is more about really liking Ingram's game. He's only an inch shorter than Simmons (and still growing - 14 months younger than Simmons), handles the ball just as well as Simmons (yet nobody seems to be bringing that up) and has excellent scoring ability from inside or out. His length is awesome for a SF (4 inches longer than Simmons) and he knows how to use it. He's going to be a matchup nightmare for most SF's by using that wingspan to block or get into the passing lanes. He also comes into the league more ready than Simmons ... the program at Duke is much more structured than LSU's where Simmons was basically given free reign with the ball in his hands. There are "zero" character or laziness issues with Ingram, the kid has a great attitude and work ethic. He would join the Sixers with a defined position and role whereas with Simmons you would have to make him the centerpiece of the offense to maximize his strengths.

Please ignore the Laker uni :)

Will I be upset if/when we draft Simmons? No ... there's plenty of talent there to work with and we have the available cap space and trade piece (Okafor) to surround him with complimentary players. If properly motivated he can become that key, all around type, franchise player. I just think that Ingram's flat out the better player and once he fills out (he will fill out) he's going to be that 25 point per game guy who can carry your offense. We have a player in Dario Saric coming over who projects well at the PF position already ... does the dirty work down low and has good shooting range, so even if we don't draft Simmons we're ok at the 4. imo we need Ingram more than we need Simmons.

C Embiid/Noel
PF Saric
SF Ingram (#1 pick)
SG Crabbe (free agency)
PG Jamal Murray or Kris Dunn (via trade for Okafor with the 3rd or 4th pick)

I love his ability to catch and shoot. Boy could we use that.

Ric Bucher says that the Sixers definitely want to trade Okafor to get Kris Dunn, who he thinks is the BPA in the draft. The Sixers, he says, will pick Simmons, but want to add Dunn for sure.

Dunn has everything except for a shot. How many times can we draft guys like this?

I'd be just fine with Dunn if you combine him with Ingram ... but Dunn with Simmons doesn't make sense to me. Simmons needs the ball in his hands a good deal of the time to be effective; if you take him #1 you want him to do what made him the #1 pick which is to run a good deal of the Offense through him. Dunn is "also" a guy you take because he runs the Offense and makes plays for others. A Dunn/Simmons combo makes no sense to me unless we're getting Kevin Durant to be our go-to scorer :)

I want Simmonds. After him I would be perfectly fine trading Okafor to get either Ingram or Murray. I just don't think Dunn is worth it. Playing Simmonds as a point 4 is the biggest reason to get him. He can make things happen with the ball in his hands. You do not need a traditional point guard if you get him. I don't think Dunn can play an off-ball guard position.

Ugh, no. That's exactly the type of move that I feared when Colangelo was named GM.

Exactly. Colangelo is going to piss away all of Hinkie's assets fast. This would be worse than even I had feared. And I had no hope he could do anything right.

As a fanbase, we are reduced to the reality that only Joel Embiid can save us from Bryan Colangelo. God help us.

If Embiid is healthy, it won't matter what Colangelo does. If not, they will max out as the current Celtics team in 3 year and back to the treadmill, this time without the assets Hinkie left us with.
