The Steelers kept Ben because he's one of the top QB's in the league. I understand why they did so. However for them to trade Holmes for a 5th round pick because of off the field issues is a double standard in my book.

Can an Eagles fan explain why Philly fans love Vick & hated McNabb for all the years he was in Philly?

sure mcnabb sucked look at washington that was us for 11 years of torture...can not shine in the big games........we put great defense out there and he couldn't take advantage of it......vick did his time god forgives us so should we....vick is an athlete he can run and pass....when mcnabb got hurt that one year took his legs with him....he is not an accurate qb...when mcnabb lost his feet he lost his skills

If Ben wins this Superbowl he will def go down as one of the best QB's ever... At his age, to already reach that status is amazing. Yes, he has gotten himself into some shady situations, but on the field, the dude is a beast.

edit: I had no idea he was playing for weeks with a friggin broken foot.

this is why i HATE the steelers.. one of the best qb's ever? give me a fuckin break.. dude is 31/50 for 380 yds, 1 TD, and 3 picks in his two super bowl wins.. i cant think of any athlete since i've been alive that road the coat tails of a fantastic team more than Ben Roethlisberger.. he's a passable NFL qb that is a good 'manager' of the game and can make a good play for you now and then.. in other words, he doesn't lose the game for them, despite how hard he tries with his 10/19 and 2 pick effort yesterday

i promise you 75% of the QB's in the league right now could win with the defense he has saving him from his mistakes AND scoring extra points for him.. its pure trash that he gets credit for being a good QB, and you're going to call him one of the best QB's EVER!?!?!?!?.. i'm sorry jeff but that's just horse shit

I'm not speaking solely from a stats perspective, and possibly my opinion means shit because I can truly care less about football... But there aren't many QB's, if any that would end the regular season and play through the playoffs to the superbowl with a broken foot. Dude has heart.

haha i hear you man.. i'm not a big NFL fan at all.. i just despise big ben, almost on a crosby level.. he's the most overrated QB in the history of the NFL.. the steelers are a fantastic football TEAM.. i would say big ben is one of the weaker links, as opposed to the 'key' guy analysts and pittsburghers make him out to be

he is however, tough as nails, i'll give you that

weaker links really?

How about that fucking offensive line that he gets to play behind. He's never been a stats guy and never will be. He makes his living because he can keep a play alive. There isn't a team out there that isn't scared of him when he gets the ball last in the 4th quarter. I don't feel like looking for the stats but he has a shit load of 4th quarter comeback wins. His best was against the packers last year beating aaron rodgers while throwing for over 500 yards.

In the spirit of the initial article, eat a dick haters

and how many times have you complained about him 'keeping the play alive' long enough to get sacked, when an easy dump off was all he needed to do.. believe me i've watched plenty of steeler games, my step dad is a huge fan.. but you guys all do the same stuff, get annoyed with him for scrambling around and taking 7 minutes in the pocket and taking a sack.. but when the argument comes to the table, you love that he takes so much time because then when he makes the good play scrambling around, you can speak to that as one of his strengths.. half the time he 'keeps plays alive' is because he let them get so close to death he needed to revive them, when a simple dump off would've accomplished the same result

and as far as him throwing for over 500 yards in a game.. players have good games.. andy delmore had a hat trick against the pens in the playoffs 10 years ago.. was he a great player? you probably dont even know who that is he was so mediocre

he's a decent QB, he's not a world beater, and yes, IMO he's one of the weaker links on the team.. after the offensive line, i'd say QB is the next position that needs improved on the steelers.. lord knows its not anyone on defense, i guess maybe they could use a corner, hines, wallace, miller, and co. are good in the recieving corp, and rashard is a quality RB as we saw yesterday

So you still would have taken Ricky Williams over McNabb on draft day? The way McNabb was treated on draft day was a pathetic. Then again I guess we shouldn't be surprised I mean they even boo Santa Claus in Philly.:D

Anyone who thinks that Ben is overrated doesn't watch too much TV. Sure, maybe Steelers fans see more in him than an average NFL fan, but the analysts give him NOTHING. The stats are really deceiving, trust me. His stats from yesterday were rough, but he made the plays when it counted. What makes him a great QB, IMO, is his ability to be CLUTCH. In fact, in only 7 years he leads the active NFL (unofficially) in 4th quarter comebacks. Let me see if I can find that article...

thats just not true.. but i guess we cant really argue that cause they don't keep stats on announcers :L

and my friend from home (p-burgh) sent me the same stuff haha.. my only response to that is, he probably shouldn't have wasted the first 3 quarters being a bad QB so that he could be a decent QB in the 4th and win it

not the greatest comeback, but it's really all i got.. i just think he's way overrated.. he's a decent QB no doubt, just overrated.. there are many QB's in the NFL that i'd rather have, and more often than not the only argument that friend has is 'how many superbowls have they won'.. which infuriates me because it's a team sport.. big ben just happens to play on (probably) the best team

Roethlisberger is a top 5 quarterback in the NLF. He's been consistently in the top 5 in passer rating year in and year out. He's also always near the top of the league in yards per attempt (an excellent measure of quarterback quality), completion percentage and TD/INT ratio. The only quarterbacks in the league who are better than him, in my opinion, are Brady, Manning, Rodgers and Rivers. Out of seven seasons, he's only been below a 95 passer rating twice, and one of those was his motorcycle accident season. And with the Steelers' offensive line, I don't think Brady, Manning, Rodgers or Rivers (who all have very good offensive lines) would put up the numbers Ben does.

EDIT: And for the record, when it comes down to it, I believe that the positive value of the big plays he makes by holding the ball far exceed the negative value of the sacks he takes. That's just how it is statistically.

I must have missed the sarcasm in your post because I know you didn't just say the Big Ben is better than Manning. Because Manning is by far the superior quarterback and it isn't even close.

Putting Ben in with the rest of those quarterbacks is like putting a retard in the Olympics.

Manning is a better quarterback than Ben. And Brees is too, I somehow forgot. So that makes Ben a top 10 instead of 5. But all of those guys have good lines, and Manning does not play well when other teams get pressure on him. He's great when he's got 4 seconds, which Ben isn't. But Ben can play behind the Steelers' offensive line, and I sincerely believe Manning could not. Rivers might be able to, he's got some athleticism. Same with Rodgers.

EDIT: And I actually said the words Manning is better than Ben in my original post, for what it's worth. I forgot Brees momentarily, but other than that, I would take Ben over every quarterback except those five.
