Three of Tottenham Hotspur’s black players were subjected to racist abuse from a section of the travelling Lazio support during the 0-0 Europa League draw between the clubs at White Hart Lane on Thursday night.

In front of the Uefa president, Michel Platini, Jermain Defoe, Aaron Lennon and the substitute Andros Townsend were the targets of monkey chants when they ventured in front of the enclosure containing 1,500 Lazio fans.

The flashpoints followed the news that the Chelsea midfielder Mikel John Obi had deleted his Twitter account after he was racially abused by users on the site. The Nigerian removed his profile less than 24 hours after his mistake played a part in Juventus’s equaliser in the 2-2 Champions League draw at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea have contacted the police.

I get some of the racism in Europe, afterall it's not like North America where everything is diversified, our celebs are all different races, any given classroom looks like the UN, etc. But when you go to Europe, they all have their own language, they all look alike, outsiders are different to them so I somewhat understand where the ignorance comes from.

With that said, this is in London. An international city. They have been subjected to every type of culture imaginable. There's a difference between being an ignorant ass and flat out being an asshole. These guys are the latter.

naw man ... thats giving them a free pass ... there is plenty of immigration in many euro countries and while those nations werent built on that like canada and USA were its been happening for centuries ... my parents home town in Northern Italy (population 30K) has a Chinatown and theres all sorts of African restaurants ... much more cosmopolitan and diverse than a 30k town in the prairies of canada ... yet they are bigger red-asses in europe, imo

9:47 p.m. Budimir calls Cvrtak once again and lets him know that Real Madrid doesn't play against Toronto Croatia but, in fact, Toronto FC. He wants to call the "friend" and ask about Toronto's players and how they compare to the CSL squad.

The new call happens right away and Budimir tells Cvrtak that this Toronto team plays in Major League Soccer and are much better than Toronto Croatia. He advises that they better not bet that much.
