Crazy that this could happen again. Just...crazy. A shooter is at large after shooting and killing a police officer during a routine traffic stop. Another dead body was found in the same parking lot, and the whereabouts of the man is unknown. Campus on lock down.

Supposedly a car was spotted racing down some highway in Blacksburg with something black over the license plate. Not sure how true this is, but it was posted as an update on the water cooler.

I saw that as well, tweeted by SPORTS_BY_BROOKS I believe. Said there was a Silver beetle speeding up I-81 with something covering the plates.

A cop was shot and killed in the Coliseum parking lot after a traffic stop. The shooter fled on foot to the "cage" which is a parking lot a few hundred yards away that is partly commuter, mostly resident students. Where he would have entered most likely is right on that line. Another person was shot and killed there and the suspect fled in another car.

What is not known:

If this is related to an armed robbery in neighboring Radford the night before

If this was a student

If the car on 81, speeding was in anyway involved. A lot of knuckleheads speed on 81 and the car does not match the description of the one the cops were looking for earlier

So the shooting of the 2nd guy was to get his car to flee? Or was the dead guy in the parking lot shot first, and then the traffic stop happened, unbeknownst to the officer that the guy had already shot someone, thus the driver shot the cop thinking he was being arrested for the first shooting?

The officer was shot first. I assume the second victim (now being referred to as a "student") was shot to get the car, yes.

The school is still on lockdown.

MY PURE SPECULTAION:

The cop pulled the guy over on a routine stop. When he took the ID back to his car to run it, the person involved knew something was about to find, and flipped out, went back to the car and killed the cop, then fled to the other car.

Also, a nearby rest area has been blocked off for suspicious activity, because a traveler went into the bathroom and changed clothes and came out.
