You're not understanding the point. If you remove them from their team, which team suffers more. I think the Bengals. That's the point. And of course wins do play into it. That's the goal in the NFL isn't it, to get more wins?

That's the wrong approach. Now you're simply rewarding the team that has the bigger drop off from starter to back up.

However, I don't see Clausen leading Carolina to any wins. He's terrible.

Matt Ryan won rookie of the year because he's a quarterback. When comparing Dalton and Newton, both are quarterbacks.

In 2003 Anquan Boldin won OROY for the 4-12 Cardinals. Nobody won less games that year. In 2007 Willis won it for the 5 win 49ers. Julius Peppers won it for the 7 win Panthers. In 2006 Demeco Ryans won it for the 6 win Texans.

It's not a team award. It's not an award for wins. Matt Ryan.

It's an award for the best first year player in the league on offense. Is Andy Dalton a better player than Cam Newton?

The Panthers won one game last year with Clausen at QB, and they needed David Carr to come into the game for the Niners for that to happen. They were blown out nearly every game with some of the worst passing offense you will ever see. This year they are in every single game, including against the good teams, and have turned into a pretty good offense. The one difference is the QB who is also putting up great stats.

Dalton's doing a heckuva a job, but he's not as impactful as Cam is. Dalton has a great defense and he is asked to manage the game and make a few plays. Cam has a terrible defense that is a sieve and is asked to carry his team the entire game. When coaches are game planning, I guarantee you they spend more time trying to figure how to stop Cam than they do Dalton. Cam is the better offensive player at this point.

Edit: My bad, I forgot they beat the Cards, but my point stands. Clausen was awful and never threw for more than 200 yards. Cam doubled that in each of his first two games.

IDK, i don't see Green getting more looks than Dalton in this scenario.

But in the end, I believe it's Cam Newton's to lose. It's nearly locked up for him.

(still think Dalton will get more looks/consideration IF he leads the bengals to the playoffs)

well i doubt voters will look at it this way, but....

green is on pace for 1200+ yards with a rookie qb throwin the ball to him. to me it's neck and neck between newton and green.

Only concentrating on Green & Dalton, why would Green get more votes over Dalton since both are rookies and connecting with one another?(just discussing)

dalton isn't putting up big numbers. he's been efficient, but green is having an excellent season so far. to me it isn't even close between the two.

I think Green is putting up more impressive numbers then Dalton with regards to his position. He is having a better year for a wide receiver then Dalton is having for a quarterback in my opinion.

Not to sure how though? If they weren't on the same team then fine, definitely understandable. But they are on the same team, nevertheless the same connection, how does one say Green is putting up more impressive numbers without tying Dalton to it since it's Dalton throwing him the ball...

Not discounting Green at all, but if Green has 120 yds recieving, doesn't that mean Dalton(99%) threw 120 yds his way? if Green finishes with 3 TDs, doesn't that correlate to Dalton throwing for atleast 3 TDs?

This is for Rookie performances of course.

All I am saying is with respect to his position. Comparing the numbers against others at the position. It is possible Green looks better because of Dalton, or that Dalton looks better because of Green. Either one would be a subjective arguement. Both are doing well, but with respect to the numbers at their position compared to others in the league at their position. I would say Green is having the better year.

I get your question but I think Excel has it right. Let's say for argument's sake, that Dalton only completes passes to Green (or more realistically, the vast majority to Green). If Green has 1600 yds and 14 TD's, that is a sweet year for any WR, much less a rookie.

Once again, for argument's sake; if Dalton has only thrown 1800 yds and 16 TD's, doesn't Green look like the more impressive player?

I guess if its to that degree where Green has 88% of Dalton's yards & 87.5% of the TDs...

daltons ypa is under 7 and his passer rating is under 90. good year for a rookie and he shows potential, but green is on pace for what a top 5 season as a rookie wr?

or put it this way, green would most likely be putting up better numbers on a team with a better qb who can drive the ball down the field more. how would daltons numbers look if u swapped green with say crabtree?

Thought we should get a players opinion lol. Here's Deangelo Hall on the ROY award.

Hall said that Kerrigan's burden is that the Redskins (3-4) have been losing lately and that those types of awards usually go to winners. "With us not winning games, he (Kerrigan) probably doesn't have a shot in hell," Hall said. "So tell your guy, good luck."

Why did I know you were going to paste that in here? Oh yeah, because you agree with a sour grapes fool.

We're just full of disagreements lol. I know everyone's reply will be "homer" but as a football fan, I think Aldon is having a bigger impact with less time.

I'm sorry but DeAngelo Hall's remark about rookies from losing teams do not have a chance for ROY awards does not fly. I looked up the DROY winners since 2004 (see list below) and it will show that ROY winners are chosen regardless of their teams record:

2004 Jonathan Vilma (Jets) 6-10
2005 Shawne Merrimen (Chargers) 12-4
2006 DeMeco Ryans (Texans) 6-10
2007 Patrick Willis (49ers) 5-11
2008 Jeron Mayo (Patriots) 11-5
2009 Brian Cushing (Texans) 9-7
2010 Ndamukong Suh (Lions) 6-10

Impact???
A part time player who strictly gets sacks and doesn't rack up tackles vs a starting LB who does get the tackles and has .5 sacks less. It's Miller at this point. You can spare me the win/loss impact shit.
