It looks like the American system will become worse than what we've seen elsewhere. Tasks that used to be done by doctors are now being assigned to nurses, and pharmacists are giving walk-in injections. All this with private insurance, deductibles and other shit to take money from anyone with the audacity to have actually earned it.

This is more annoying that drives me nuts - Viewing sports highlight videos on youtube that I have yet to watch and don't know the result and the thumbnail shows a player from the winning team.

Ow, my back. Spent 3 hours in the garage organizing and cleaning up and I don't feel like I made much of a dent.

We can create a whole thread on the awful US Healthcare system.
Look at the Fortune 15 in the US.
NOTE: I am not counting AWS, Microsoft and Alphabet (GCP) but they have HUGE stakes in the IT side of Healthcare.

1. Walmart - in the pharmacy distribution and retail side. And diving into the minute clinics
2. Amazon (NON-AWS) tried to get into the distribution but realized competing with the big 3 (McKesson, Cardinal, Amerisource) it wasn't worth it. Also dealing with all the additional regulations would mean they would have to actually pay employees properly. But they are in the supply distribution.
4. CVS Health
5. United Health
9. McKesson
10. AmerisourceBergen
11. Costco - same as walmart
12. Cigna
14. Cardinal

Right outside
18. Walgreens
20. Elevance Health

You can argue over half the earnings in the US from the Fortune 15 is all based on healthcare.

McKesson/Amerisource and Cardinal make trillions of dollars just by being one little part of the logistics of medical/supply distribution.
Their main models are based on volume and the more they move, the more they make.

A daughter who is technologically savvy enough to use apps like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok yet somehow can't read a sign to determine whether parking her car is free or not in a designated space. Of course, she's a poor university student so guess who's out $80.

add to that a daughter who was too damned lazy to get her drivers license for the past two and a half years (even though her parents paid for as many lessons as she would care to schedule).
now she is 2,700 miles away from her parents' taxi service and in a panic because she has to move her shit out of the dorm in a couple of months and doesn't have a means of doing so. And hasn't really done much research as to where she can dump it over the summer anyways.

kid has lived in a cocoon all of her life.

also, because it is a college town, rental places are in such demand that her parents have to start paying rent in May, even though she won't be living there until September. wheeee.

People who text and message you constantly and you NEVER respond to them but they continue to do it relentlessly.

And I’m not tactful enough to tell them nicely to stop.

I’m more of the “what the fuck is wrong with you” type of person…

Electronic nannies in cars. We've had my Wife's car for nearly 4 years and it has some silly forward braking sensor. It has never activated because, well everyone who drives the car actually knows how to drive. Last week, she got cut off and the person who cute her off slammed on the brakes so she had to break very heavily. The system never activated as far as we can tell.

What the system did do is malfunction after the fact now and needs an expensive repair. We have to pay to repair a feature we don't want and have never used. But since it failed, it affects the way the car drives.

Electronic nannies are a terrible idea anyway because it gives stupid fucking people a safety net. "I can read text messages when driving because my car will put me back in a lane when I drift out or brake when it needs to".

Yep stupid stuff they put in cars. I had an Eddie Bauer edition Ford Expedition that I purchased used many years ago. I needed it at the time for a specific hauling need, kids and stuff. :) Anyway it had so many bells and whistles in it that it became more expensive to repair than worth the extra space. One of the items it had was heated and cooling seats, yeah cool feature except when it broke it threw the check engine light on!

Anyone who has to get a safety inspection in their cars yearly knows with a check engine light it will fail automatically. It would have cost me thousands of dollars to repair. Luckily, a friend of mine, who just happened to be a Ford Mechanic helped me disconnect the whole system, so the check engine wouldn't come back and clear the codes.

EDIT: I almost forgot it had electronic air shock system in it also. When that broke I sold the truck, it was not worth the expense to repair or remove.

The electronic parking brake is a dumb idea in my opinion, what's wrong with the tried-and-true mechanical parking brake that you can adjust (either a little or a lot depending on the situation). If the electronic motor fails, it's also an expensive fix.

I dont mind the brake alert in my car, well until it breaks and costs me money, but the alert and course correction I get when switching lanes is annoying. Especially if I am not turning or merging and the sensor is picking up on something else.

These systems might stop idiots from crashing into good drivers though in some cases.

Last summer, my son used my wife's car to get to work because the AC was broken in his. Every time he used it the Blindspot monitor beeper was back on. When we asked him why he keeps turning it back on he said he likes it so he doesn't have to look to check blindspots.

That conversation did not go well for him.

Wait a sec, is this the goalie son who isn't keeping his head on a swivel?

My parents car turns all of that stuff back on automatically every time you drive the car. You can turn it off, but it's only for that session. It would definitely be enough to make me sell the car.

pussification of the game means you can't hit goalies, so they don't need to have their head on a swivel.
it's making 'em soft, i tells ya

let's go!

pussification ... goalies ... head on a swivel ... reminds me of my sons first round playoff elimination game a couple weeks back ... my sons team was a 16 seed v the #1 seeded team. Almost pulled off a March madness Cinderella story ... lost 3-2 in OT. I took this pic of our goalie in the 3rd when it was tied 2-2 and the entire grade 9 student body of the high school that all the #1 seeded teams players went to showed up.

Chanting "FUCK YOU 31" at our goalie ... and he ate it up ... turned around and challenged them every stoppage in play lmao
