AutoZone is legally prohibited from clearing the lights in some areas unless you can give them documentation to demonstrate that you fixed the problem that was causing the light to come on in the first place. My brother said that AutoZone will check the code for free and can clear it. I'll probably do that right before going in, I guess? I was going to get it fixed, but why waste money on that right before trading it in? It's up for inspection in July too. Thought I'd dump it before those expenses. And I'm a single female who sure doesn't need a soccer mom van.
what do you mean by funny? seriously ... what are you trying to say here? Sounds like some thinly veiled RACISM here!!!
ITS AN UP AND COMING NEIGHBOURHOOD DAMMIT!
Also Pix, if you are beating around the bush and asking for one of us to set your car on fire - say no more. Its taken care of.
$650 a month could get you a nice studio apartment in the rapey part of Newark.
I mean, all the jokes aside, can we all agree that this woman is a mental patient?
Admittedly I know very little about her as I can't think of any good reason to make an effort to learn about her or her motivations. Giving what I do know, I am in agreement with you.

I would recommend buying something along the lines of this guy from Amazon:
It's super easy to use, and it gives you a few options. I used one on one of my cars. The best way to go is to first clear the light, then just start driving the car again for a bit and see if it reappears. If not, you're golden. Otherwsie, you know you need to do something. Then you can run it again and get the specific code. Google the code and you'll know what's wrong.
The tricky part about just clearing the code right before you turn it in is that modern cars include a series of readiness monitors. Depending on the specific car, these could take anywhere from about 5-50 miles of driving for the computer to finish doing the evaluation of whether a specific monitor is OK or not.
So for example, since a car won't pass inspection in many states if the light is on, if you clear the light when you pull into the parking lot of the garage, when they hook it up, their machine will say that the readiness monitors are not ready and they'll fail you. The dealer might do something similar when you turn the car in, because there are other alarms that could exist that aren't severe enough for the check engine light to come on.
Thanks! When it comes to trading it in, I'm not too worried about it, because I'm in "take it or leave it" mode with the car. It's an '04, value won't be sky high. More worried about me wussing out on the negotiation process.
