I used to really like to watch MTVs 120 Minutes on Sunday night. It was a good place to see new and weird bands. Then it sort of changed and I didn't like it as much.

Recently someone compiled all the 120 playlists and it really did change. For years it was an eclectic selection of music from around the world. There were some "hits" that got played numerous weeks in a row but generally it was different stuff every week.

After grunge hit that completely changed and took over the show. Pretty much the same show exact show every week for months at a time.

I get it, that's what was hot and I'm not saying what they used to play was any better....but it was different, a variety, and I enjoyed it more.

Side notes:
I've never listened to an Alice In Chains song all the way through on purpose and I hope I never do. The worst of that entire scene imo.

Because of the eclectic stuff 120 Minutes (and the local radio station played before it turned into an alternative hits station) played I do have a handful of terrible albums I bought after hearing one song. Anyone want to borrow my Huxton Creepers album?
On the Sirius XM 80's New wave station they have a show called "Party 360" Hosted by the 120 minutes guy. Except, of course, it's 360 minutes. So much great stuff and no grunge.

And I miss the Mighty WHFS. It was such a great station until one of the conglomerates bought them. Besides the music their news segments were awesome.

Another album I bought after hearing one song. Decent song to me still, nothing else on the album sounded like it. My wife loved the 80s Athens Georgia scene, this band came out of it.

They are no Huxton Creepers.

I always liked Joe Jackson, my wife was never a fan. His music I guess, it's different for girls.
After that Joke, Comeds is running around shouting "I'm the man!"

ergo, it's going on repeat 24/7 :) (yes, i made sure to link from Dire Straits' official page)

No context, just a great song

friend of mine went to see their opening band a couple of weeks ago, and left after one song of the Furs.
He was tripping on mushrooms, and walked right into a machete massacre where the cops had just shot the assailant.

He said he has never seen so much blood and so many cops incoming from every direction.
so that's fun

Old Guy Radio presents Prince Rogers Nelson having some fun with a live audience - There's a more provocative video on youtube of this song if so inclined :)

On this day in 1990, Alice in Chains releases their debut album.
So here's the first single. Comeds has neve heard this song all the way through.

Only about a thousand times. I never purposely play anything by them and if they come on the radio I immediately change the station. However I had friends that loved them and I spent a lot of time in the early to mid 90s in bars.

Re-reading it, I can see how my post is not worded very well.
