Stance: Goofy
On the Sirius XM 80's New wave station they have a show called "Party 360" Hosted by the 120 minutes guy. Except, of course, it's 360 minutes. So much great stuff and no grunge.I used to really like to watch MTVs 120 Minutes on Sunday night. It was a good place to see new and weird bands. Then it sort of changed and I didn't like it as much.
Recently someone compiled all the 120 playlists and it really did change. For years it was an eclectic selection of music from around the world. There were some "hits" that got played numerous weeks in a row but generally it was different stuff every week.
After grunge hit that completely changed and took over the show. Pretty much the same show exact show every week for months at a time.
I get it, that's what was hot and I'm not saying what they used to play was any better....but it was different, a variety, and I enjoyed it more.
Side notes:
I've never listened to an Alice In Chains song all the way through on purpose and I hope I never do. The worst of that entire scene imo.
Because of the eclectic stuff 120 Minutes (and the local radio station played before it turned into an alternative hits station) played I do have a handful of terrible albums I bought after hearing one song. Anyone want to borrow my Huxton Creepers album?
And I miss the Mighty WHFS. It was such a great station until one of the conglomerates bought them. Besides the music their news segments were awesome.
