Some of my earliest memories involve my mom listening to the Beach Boys. She was very much into car culture and loved them and their music. Of course her car nuttiness rubbed off on me. In no small part because she explained what the car jargon in songs like Shut Down and 409 meant.

Rest easy, Brian

Oh. Just this morning I responded to a tweet asking for the most overrated bands ever.
My answer was Beach Boys (and Oasis)

Feels a bit distasteful now.
If I said who my most overrated band was of all time I'd open myself up into a torrent of criticism.

Bring it.

Beatles had heavy inclusion in the thread.
Yep, out of the 200+ song catalogue I listen to ~10 songs. My favorites are ones George Harrison wrote, here comes the sun, something, while my guitar gently weeps.

Early Lennon/McCartney wasn't too bad. Ticket to ride, day tripper etc.

Yellow submarine, Sergeant Pepper ehhh no thanks

I said it.
The Stones when they hit it, are fucking fantastic
Gimme shelter, shine a light, sister morphine, I could listen to on repeat for days.
A whole lotta meh mixed in.

And Keef has been the second best guitarist for the entirety of the bands existence

I do agree with sbb, Harrison was the Beatles' best songwriter.
I've been preaching that for a long time now.

I always connected with Lennon's lyrics as well and the message relating to wanting peace and his general distaste for being famous. Although not a Beatles song, I love "Watching the wheels". How you describe the Stones is pretty on par with how I feel about the Beatles, honestly. Some great surrounded by a lot of... well. And the drug-fueled White Album was the pinnacle of that. Dear Prudence, Revolution, and While my Guitar Gently weeps existing with WTF stuff like Ob La Di and Rocky Raccoon.

Def Leppard - Early stuff was great, but then they lost the plot.
Yeah but my wife is a huge fan so I get stuck going to their concerts when they come. In doing so I learned how much I think Journey is way overrated also.

Granted the last time they came they only played pyromania due to the anniversary. So that was very good.

Since they seem to tour together.

random on the Beach Boys (rip Brian Wilson)

they were brought up the other day in context of Snoop dogg playing the BC Lions home opener Saturday

Beach Boys played a post Vancouver Whitecaps NASL game at the then month old BC Place in July 1983.

Brad Delp was born on this day in 1951 - This is right up there as top choice for you're stranded on an island and you can only take one album.
