the album Purple Rain was released on this day in 1984

a deeper cut on a great album
Brilliant album. Deeply flawed movie though.

Today, I stood a piece of plexiglass away from the guitar he used to play the song Purple Rain. Stunningly beautiful instrument. And John Lennon's guitar. And Randy Rhoads, and Kirk Hammet and.. Didn't get to see Lucille, but BB King's purple coat was there.

I cannot recommend the Rock and Roll hall of fame enough. Very cool experience. My kiddo jumped in with the house garage band and belted out "Zombie" by the Cranberries and learned about layering and riffs. Played the drum part for We Will Rock you, the bass line for ThunderStruck and the guitar bit for "One" by Metallica. I had a go at "Another one bites the dust" on bass. Guess I am shelling out for musical instruments soon...

It's wild to be that close to the actual clothes worn and instruments played. They had THAT dress from Tina Turner, Rob Halford's spikey leather coat, the British Flag jacket from David Bowie. It was really cool. They also had the mesh top that Prince wore on the cover of Controversy. It makes you keenly aware of how small rock stars actually are.

Also saw the cars stage props from U2s 92 tour, all of Eddie VanHalen's guitars, Flavor Flav's clock and the set from ink Floyd's The Wall.

Mick Jones (68 candles) of The Clash...

I saw his boots from the Rock the Casbah video as well as his handwritten lyrics to Should I Stay or Should I go
