Gotta imagine they were pretty disappointed after not getting into the NCAA tournament. Not surprising to me at all.

Yeah you're right about that. After last year though getting to the sweet 16 I think Saint Mary's just had the mindset that they were going to at least make the tournament this year, especially with the way they started the season. And to not have it happen and see a team like UAB, who had zero business in the tournament, get in they had to be pretty shocked. Mickey McConnel shooting 2-5 tonight and 1-4 on the free throw line (over 90% shooter on the year) tells me all I need to know about his mindset. He was not in this game at all. Sad to see his career end like that.


We'll see how good Saint Mary's is next season. I get the felling that their run at the top of the conference is coming to a close. They'll probably still finish in the upper half of the conference next year, but they won't have a Simpson, Mills, McConnel or Samhan to rely on. San Francisco is gonna be the team the Zags have to watch out for next season IMO.

I only saw a few St. Mary's games this year. It seemed to me McConnel was deferring a lot of shots to Delavedova.

Dellavedova is a good shooter. His problem is he isn't very good at creating his own shot. McConnell always drew the other team's best perimeter defender so dishing the ball to Dellavedova was oftentimes the better call. Next year with Mickey gone, Dellavedova is going to get the other team's best outside defender and I think his game is really going to suffer because of it. We'll see though. Maybe he'll prove me wrong.
