Nailed it.
I got a turkey sub the other day on Tabata bread. Pretty solid.
It's really difficult to explain, but essentially most players when they get up to the MLB are under the team's control for six years - three at an entry level salary, and three of arbitration. If a player has a certain number of days of service time before his first full MLB season, he will earn Super Two status, which is 2 years at entry level and 4 of arbitration.
This does threethings to the team. One, they have to pay arbitration price for an extra year, which is always significantly higher than entry level, and, two, it drives up the price on the fourth year of arbitration. The third thing it can do is make it significantly more difficult for teams to extend their young players and buy out the arbitration years.
The idea of avoiding Super Two status is essentially to get young talent under the team's control for as long as possible for as cheap as possible, and as far into the player's prime as possible. And that's why you likely won't see Ackley this season.
