they had an attack on the main board while the mods with banning powers were away. so the sub-mods were kept busy for a while deleting posts.
so this system was implemented whereby posters with a certain amount of posts / rep or something can issue infractions. As Dash said, 3 strikes and you're out. I don't know for how long, but enough to stop a moron with time on is hands.

speaking of which, anyone remember tumor? Now that was a troll with purpose.

I think the difference is you can report posts as advertising or obvious spam whereas infractions are more for the "personal attack" or "racist" type of posts.

Just to clarify (it's hard to be serious when i can see bonbon taking hits), infractions should be given when someone is completely out of control - after three "trusted users" hit the infraction on someone, within a given amount of time, that poster is banned. In other words, if someone signs up just to screw with the board.

Reporting a post is just that. It tells the mods to take a look at a post that may not belong on the board. Both should rarely be used.
