Injuries and confidence have certainly taken their toll on Jason Bay and it's a shame, as he put up some very solid numbers with the Pirates and Red Sox. You can't blame a guy for chasing the big dollars that the Mets offered (and I can't blame Mets fans for being disappointed at the lack of return for the money invested).

Bay was a heck of an all-around player before his first rash of injuries. I think he had a knee and shoulder injury to begin with. The knee took away his base stealing and defensive range, and the shoulder took his arm from above average to absolute crap. The knee also seemed to cost him a lot of power down the road.

Jason Bay close to one-year deal with Mariners
Outfielder Jason Bay, who was released this offseason by the Mets with $21 million still owed on his contract, was close Wednesday to agreeing to a one-year Major League contract with the Mariners.

No deal has been announced by the Mariners and financial terms are not known, though a source indicated it would be for less than $1 million.



/mets will still be paying him 13 shmill this year as per the buyout lol
