First game of the season and my boy's team lost 3-1. He was in goal.

He stopped 19. The other goalie stopped one.

To be <reported>, his team had only 7 kids and him show up. Was tied at one with 4 minutes to go in the second.

I'd say fatigue was a factor.

I've played beer league games with 7 skaters plus a goalie...The beer sure tastes great after those games.

/Nice job by your son to keep it close, 43.

Wow you had them young.

You put some faux facial hair on a kid, and they'll take 'em.

In fact they thought little Artie was too old...but he insisted on this look.

Kinda related I guess, but my high school team actually made it to the state finals last year. Heck of a run from out of nowhere.

High school sports are amazing because that happens all the time. Yeah, there are the perennial winners, but every year it's a vastly different team. In fact, after our first half last night I though for sure they were gonna be the victims of taking a terrible team too lightly. Luckily they got their act together in the second half and dominated. Quick story. One of our big defensive players, a senior ILB who has started 3 years, lost his father yesterday around noon. It was extremely sudden. His dad was mid-forties, healthy dude, just had a pulmonary embolism. Obviously this struck the school pretty hard (they're a close group), but the kid decided to show up just before the game to lead them out of the lockerroom. Very emotional. He stayed on the sideline, probably trying to stay distracted. We go into the lockerroom down 6-3 (against a team we beat by 30+ regular season). Start the first half with a turnover and a quick TD, go up 10-6. Suddenly our senior LB is dressed and in the game. Moving moment. Very emotional. Went on to win 38-13.

University of Calgary leads University of Manitoba 41-0 and there's still a half of football to be played...

Nice! I'd stay up and talk longer, but this hotel internet connection is slower than a two-toed sloth driving a turtle car stuck behind a snail with its hazard lights blinking.

Night.
