I hate it but those happen a lot in the regular season. Usually no one is hurt so its not a huge deal. So I think they made the right call. I'd love to see a rule change though. They changed rules to protect the catchers and I think they should here too.

Make them touch 2nd base on a double play too.

They probably got him because he started his slide after the bag and went high. Though Matt Holiday got away with the same thing a few times this season, and you're right, they usually do nothing about it.

But some of the players have been grumbling about the risk of those plays, so I agree, there will probably [finally] be a rule change in the offseason.

I like the suspension, but the MLB made their bed by ignoring fairly similar dangerous slides. His appeal will have some great points. Hell, show the Coghlan slide. Or the Gregorious slide from the Wild Card game. Both very violent, one with a horrible result, neither punished.
