The top four picks in the MLB draft are in.

1. Pittsburgh - Gerrit Cole (my second choice after Rendon)
2. Seattle - Danny Hultzen (head scratcher with Rendon on the board)
3. Arizona - Trevor Bauer (the worst pick so far, in my opinion)
4. Baltimore - Dylan Bundy (perhaps the most talented pitcher in the draft, but a big risk as a HS arm)

Kansas City is up next. I can't believe Rendon is still on the board, but he might not even go to Kansas City. I really hope he drops to #62 so the Pirates can take him in the second round. :)

Kansas City takes outfielder Bubba Starling with the number 5 pick. The previous four picks were all pitchers, Hultzen the only lefty. And the Nationals took 3B Anthony Rendon. Darn, he's not going to fall to the Pirates.

tell me about him. Should I be excited?

He's a rare hard-throwing lefty and probably the safest top-end talent in the draft, at least among pitchers. This season at Virginia, he's been very good. I don't think his ceiling is very high, probably not much more than a #2 or #3, but the odds are high that he reaches that potential if he stays healthy.

He's got three pitches and good command of all of them. Mid-90s fastball, plus plus changeup, and average slider. He definitely has Major League stuff, and he should be in the league for a long time, if for no reason aside from being a lefty.

Arizona took RHP Archie Bradley, big talented kid out of high school, with the seventh pick, and their second of the draft. Top three upside, big arm power.

The Cleveland Indians took the highest ranked shortstop prospect with the 8th pick, Francisco Lindor. Projects average speed and power, plus glove and contact. He's also only 17 and doesn't turn 18 until November.

It looks like no one so far is worried about signability. These are all expensive picks.

Wow, so the Nats have now gotten 3 first overall tallent in the last 3 drafts

Yes they did. I get the Pirates picking Cole, since he's tough to pass up, but I much would have preferred Rendon.

Javier Baez, high school short stop with a big bat, goes to Chicago with the 9th pick.

The last top-ten pick is 2B Cory Spangenberg, who goes to San Diego. He's got a heck of a good bat, and is really athletic. Rendon was probably the only bat better in the draft.
