Pirates up 2-1 in the second. :) Morton has mastered the art of damage control.

Oh man, after a replay, it looks like the Pirates got hosed on the one run they gave up. It came on a tailor-made double play ball, but Cedeno's throw to first was off line. Upon further review, Polanco slid at Cedeno instead of at the bag, and the closest part of his body was at least four feet from the bag. Polanco also threw his hands into Cedeno's upper leg as Cedeno was releasing the ball. That's an illegal play and an automatic out, but the umpires missed it, and a run scored as a result.

This happens to the Pirates often.

And the Pirates got hosed again. This one wasn't even close. Xavier Paul was called out at second on a steal, even though he was tagged on the back of his neck while practically sitting on the bag. He beat the throw by half his body length, actually touched the bag before the second baseman caught the ball, and was still called out. If the umpire got it right and the two batters afterward did the same things they did, the Pirates would have scored another run. If the second base umpire was doing his job today, the Pirates would be up 3-0 instead of 2-1. I think Hurdle's going to blow a gasket soon.

Overbay hit a triple and Snyder grounded out to bring him home. 3-2 Buccos now.

Overcoming poor umpiring would be a nice feather in this team's cap. They need to add some more runs, though, as Philly's lineup is talented a lefty-heavy, which means Morton might struggle at little bit.

Brandon Wood with his first homerun of the season, giving Pirate fans their first taste of his supposed power potential, and the Pirates a 4-2 lead. :)
