My spirit is too weak--mortality
Weighs heavily on me like unwilling sleep,
And each imagin'd pinnacle and steep
Of godlike hardship, tells me I must die
Like a sick Eagle looking at the sky.

Sorry I guess I should clarify.

My Grandmother passed away over 1 month ago. My Aunt & Cousin are getting basically everything. In fact they were designated just that. EVERYTHING is to go to them.

The sick thing is they act as if everyone else should have expected as much & be happy about it. My cousin is acting as if she & her mother are entitled to everything. I think this is what bothers me the most. Families are supposed to come together in times like these. Instead it's the opposite.

Granted the home is basically worthless because of the money owed on it so that's not a big deal. What bothers us is my Grandmother didn't designate ONE SINGLE thing to my mother. No keepsake, nothing to remember her by. Nothing to remember her father by who died many years ago. ZILCH. SQUAT. ZERO.

In fact it actually says in the will that my mother can have anything my Aunt doesn't want. So basically it's the stuff that would go in the trash or nothing.

Greed is a very ugly thing.

Sorry for the rant. I'm just down today. At least there's 1 hockey game to look forward to tonight.

that sucks, DBNI.

I had an uncle who basically ran through my grandmother's house towards then end of her life, putting post-it notes on anything he thought might have value. while she was still living there...
Even though he was (of course) the least involved in her care. It's been a decade, anf the ordeal basically split the family.

You know what I do when people in my family are being assholes? I tell them they're assholes and then I stop talking to them. I have no problems cutting people out of my life if they're not worth my love or friendship.

I don't know exactly what happened. A long time ago my Grandparents owned an Antique shop. My aunt & cousin were designated each & every single item of any value my grandmother had. The sad thing is my mom flew out to see her mother just a couple of months before she died. Both knew it would probably be the last time they saw one another. There was absolutely no indication of any of this. This took us all by surprise. It's not like my mom wants much. Just a few things to remember her parents by. So far the only items my mother has been offered are old clothes that wouldn't fit her.

too bad about your family problems bolts ... Death/inheritance brings out mostly the worst in people

My grandfather gave his properties to all his children except one ... my uncle ... who was the baby of the family and a bit of a black sheep

my dad was always the peacemaker of the family, felt bad for him, and because he (my dad) was given the largest inheritance decided to subdivide a property and give my uncle half ... gratis ... my dad ended up building a house on the property he kept ... as did my uncle on the property he was given

my uncle managed to get into some sort of legal trouble with the municipality/contractor/utility company ... almost every outside entity involved in the build ... his home sat there, a quarter complete, for the better part of 5 years ... until finally he lost it due to mounting bills

That sucks about your uncle. What your dad did was a wonderful thing. He did what was best for everyone. I guess it takes someone special to do something like that these days.

one thing i should have mentioned was my dad was the only sibling from his side of the family that immigrated to canada ... the rest of his family remained in Italy

when we would go to Italy as a family when we were kids, my cousins would comment that the only time everybody in the family would get together was when we visited otherwise very few aunts and uncles were on speaking terms

the geographical distance sheltered us from their squabbles ... we were neutral (... much like the swiss lol)
