He was doing pretty good before he got hurt. He had a low average but a couple of his hits were big. Only 15 at bats, too soon to tell.

Injuries were the biggest concern I had with him. It looks like they were justified. He's a very solid, but not great, player. Ronny Cedeno is 100% suck.

I'm a firm believer that if the guys at the Majors aren't cutting it and the guys in the minors are crushing it but aren't ready yet, roster moves shouldn't be made. I mean, calling those guys up might give you a little spark, but if your Major League guys aren't cutting it, you're not going to win anyway, so you might as well play for next year and use the high draft pick.

My concern is the Padres didn't sign the kid they took with the 9th pick last year. So this year they have the 10th pick & a pick in the 20's.

If ownership isn't going to sign the high draft pick it really doesn't matter.

Baseball drafts are funny that way. Not signing that kid might have actually been the right choice. The top 3 picks are usually guys you absolutely have to sign, and then the rest of the draft you just look to give yourself a chance at as much talent as possible. Sometimes it's a better investment to sign more of the high-risk guys you take later in the draft (high school pitchers in particular) than to use that same money on just one "safe" pick in the first round.

Word was they had a deal in place & on signing deadline day Karston Whitson's advisor told the Padres he wanted more money. The Padres said no. Apparently Moorad & Hoyer heard the kid crying in the background while on the phone. Whitson got HORRIBLE advice. It happens.

Sorry WW, I am all worked up tonight.

Jeff and Osama's fault, mostly.

I dont know if I should be happy that I am on the same level as Osama's death to bring joy to someone. Or if I should feel insulted to be mentioned alongside him...

I hate the current structure of the baseball draft, and the advisers need to stop putting their egos first. That kid clearly wanted to sign. When the Padres said no to more money, the adviser should have accepted the previous contract offer. It's not fair to the kid.

contracts don't usually work that way. once you say 'No', that offer generally is off the table.
