I've had both. I think In N Out is better but my friend from DC who lives out here believe 5 Guys is better. We chalked it up to nostalgia and hometown pride.

My favorite bar in my neighborhood makes these amazing burgers. They have a grinder in the kitchen so they grind bacon directly into the beef. Called the beef and bacon burger, amazing. It's on the outskirts of the City so it's not nearly as popular as it should be, but it's supposed to be featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives this spring so it should blow up right after that. I'll be happy for the boys that they're doing well but really bummed that I have to share my whiskey bar and burgers with all the crowds.

Surprised that you've had 5 Guys, but not surprised you like the local better, most people do....

Damnit I'm so hungry now!

We're getting one in Spokane Valley soon. Good place?

Not A big fan of fries but their fries are great closest thing to a real burger as far as fast food.like vee though I have A local Irish bar that Grinds their own meat plus they'll cook em rare which is how I prefer them.

Okay, nevermind about 5 guys being so local. Quick search told me that there are over 750 stores in the US and Canada....Was only local from 86-2003, then they expanded across the county...

Kinda makes me sad :(

they are good, and they are big. lots of topping choices, too.
definitely worth trying out, but it's not something I get a craving for.

most east coasters I've spoken to do seem to prefer 5 Guys.
I like the cleanliness of the In n Out, if that makes any sense.
Everything down to the lettuce is just so fresh.

5Guys are expanding pretty aggressively out here lately, fwiw.

We have a D'Lish's here. It's pretty similar to In-N-Out.

No, i was actually surprised you had visited Virginia/DC area, haha. Now I realize though you didn't have to

Well, I did have 5 Guys in Northern California. But I've only been to Virginia once. I drove cross country from NYC to San Francisco this summer. We crashed for a night in Roanoke. Cute little town.

thanks for the tip. I think we are probably eating all of out meals while we are at the park at the overprices Disney offerings.
$28 for a Monte Cristo, were we come. :(

Another thing I look forward to in LA is Poquito Mas.
again, it's just so damned fresh. we can't get Mex like that up here.

My wife says she's found a Japanese place that's better than Matsuhisa (Nobu), but I'll believe it when i taste it.

alright now I'm getting hungry, too.
had Nando's Chicken tonight (yay for Groupon!), got a chicken breast and the fucking head was still attached.
there, now I'm not hungry anymore.
