My mom had an Airedale that could only eat vegetarian, organic dog food because of its allergies. Cost her a fortune...lol

my girl is allergic to almost everything but the pork is best for her with the sweet potatoe. did you get allergy tests?

we got the saliva test done.
shows she's mildly allergic to almost everything she has tried. and certainly all of the common stuff (beef, chicken)
I think the test is part bullshit (she can't be allergic to EVERYTHING), and partially she probably has environmental allergies which show up and give false positives.

right now it's a combo on emu, duck and veggies.
we are told pork is good for allergic dogs, but i don't want to have to cook it (takes away from the raw part of the raw diet) :)

My dog has Cushing's Disease (Peter). He needs thyroid pills which are cheap because they are the same as humans take and my wife works in a pharmacy. He also needs Vetoryl which is just for dogs and expensive as hell. The meds made quite a difference though, night and day.

So my youngest boxer puppy Anakin ate a ball. Yep a ball. It was one of those Dino egg soft balls with a squeaker. He started choking and stopped breathing a short while. I gave him a doggy version of the heimlich and he fired it out and was good to go like nothing happened anyways anything smaller that he can enclose in his mouth is now going In the garbage

I'm having a beer

Sorry, was reading back and saw this...I just envisioned you doing the heimlich, thing pops out. Dog strutting about, wanting to play, you breathing heavily, head in hands, dog wondering why you were so stressed.

One of my dogs is also allergic to a bunch of things. Did the blood test and it is unreal how much shit the poor guy is allergic to. He was been so itchy these last few years and the injections we have to give him don't help that much. He chews his feet because they itch so bad. We tried EVERYTHING but he was still so uncomfortable. Felt so bad for him.

Last week, our vet said there was this new pill out specifically for itchiness. Its called Apoquel and it is unreal how much it has helped Petey. It is hard for vets to get because it works so well and the demand is high right now. If you dog is itchy from allergies, may ask your vet about Apoquel?

(Also, Apoquel can be taken with most any other meds)

Hmmm.. Seems to stop the itching by interrupting the autoimmune system.
Gonna need to do some more research on it first.

Yes that's the only thing that I don't like about it. We figured it was worth the risk since he was so miserable. Vet said its best used for the most chronic and severe itching. The more common side effects were vomiting and diarrhea. Petey had 0 side effects so far and he has been on it a week. We noticed a big change 12 hours after his 1st dose with his itching. So far so good and if I notice ANYTHING that remotely resembles a negative side effect, I will let you guys know here ASAP if you are still looking into it.

Mattola,

This may have been posted already or you have already seen it maybe but I just saw it for the first time and for obvious reasons, thought of you. Was impressed how the dog seems to know to be careful around the baby.
