Who's seen it?

I went at midnight. It was easily the best Potter movie of them all. It's the one that I can honestly say I think was a great film; I didn't just like it because I love Harry Potter. They got nearly everything right. The adult cast was amazing in this one, even though a lot of them only had one or two scenes. It hit the right emotional notes, and truly was an epic movie.

What did everyone else think?

Dame Maggie Smith definitely stole every scene she was in.

I saw it, better than the date I had :L

LOL. I'm reading some people's comments and they are just freaking out about it.

SPOILERS

I honestly don't understand how people can not like this movie. I'm the biggest Potter fan I know (super nerd, involved in the fandom since like 2000), and I loved it. People nitpick about the dumbest shit. It's never going to be word-for-word from the book. The thing that has annoyed me inmovies passed is when they randomly change dialogue that doesn't need to be changed. They kept all my favorite lines in this one. The battle truly had an epic feel and the things they did change, I can mostly see why they did. I see people bitching about Snape's memories, but honestly, I thought they did a pretty good job. They can't take 20 minutes for that whole thing as Rowling takes a whole chapter. They had the whole feel of an epic battle down perfectly. So much going on.

My few friends that are fans already went to the midnight showing now I have to wait a bit.

As for great films, While i enjoyed most I wouldn't have considered any great films until Deathly Hallows part 1. I thought they did a great job with that.

Complaints *contains spoilers*

The final battle scene with Harry/Voldy doing the weird apparation battle thingy. He didn't fix his wand, no Shrieking Shack, the way they handled Harry alerting the world that he was alive again. All that said, I'd put this movie (in terms of sticking to the book) behind only part 1. I cried, I laughed, I cheered when Ron and Hermione finally freaking kissed as well as when Mrs. Weasley took out Bellatrix. That line is my favorite of the series. Up there with the tattoo joke in the 6th. It was a great ending to the series, and thank God they left in the 19 years later part (even if they didn't look old at all...except Draco). I'm going to miss this...a lot. The midnight premieres and releases were some of the best times of my life.

WAIT! People, no offense, but as a full blown Potter-head, I get a little ticky when people yell at me for spoiling the movie. READ THE BOOKS! I PROMISE THEY'RE BETTER AND YOU'LL ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND THE PLOT. BTW, if I had to rank the movies:

7.1-7.2 collectively the best
3 following that
1 following that
then 2
4
5
and coming in as a debacle and just horrifyingly bad is 6.

MORE SPOILERS

Does it really matter if that didn't take place in the Shrieking Shack?

As for the wand thing, I chocked that up more to the fact that they didn't want to go back and explain about why Harry's wand was so special. I liked that lost shot of them on the bridge or whatever. Made me really sad. Ultra poignant.

If I had to say one thing that actually bothered me, it would be that the final confrontation didn't take place in front of a crowd. I said to my sister after the movie, "You know there would be people who would be like CONSPIRACY, ZOMG HE'S STILL ALIVE!"

Movie six was a mixed bag for me. I thought they did a great job with the flashbacks they actually showed. I can't say I found any of the movies extremely awful. The one unforgiveable thing in the series for me was in movie three. Most of the movie is great, but for some reason, they decided to leave out the entire awesome backstory that made reading the book such a mindfuck. I mean, they never even said who the authors of the map were.

Edit: And I never think Chamber of Secrets gets enough credit. The kid who played Tom Riddle was awesome.

I actually feel bad (only a little because they need TO READ THE EFFING BOOKS) for those that are merely movie-goers. Because they HAD to be lost. They explained nothing about horcruxes. That's seriously the most important part of the entire series. Another part that was cut from the movie (understandably because it's mostly internal with Harry) was the Dumbledore's past thing. Harry never got angry with him so it wasn't mentioned in the King's Cross part at the end of 7.

You're absolutely right they had to be lost. I read the book and in general I remember just about anything I ever read...but with that movie I was just as confused as anyone else.

Read all the books but the movies always change it up a bit. Despite deathly hallows being the closest thing to the book, they still left a lot out and added a few things.

Yeah, I agree, especially since they made Voldy's body like...disintegrate in mid air? What's with that? Since when does the Avada Kevadra spell cause you to disintegrate? Also, I know the Shrieking Shack didn't matter at all, just pointing out one of those things that the movie changes for no real reason. Seriously, they made an entire new set for it, while I'm sure they still had the Shrieking Shack available. Not a biggie, just pointing it out. ALSO! The thing that may have irked me the most was that because they never included SPEW the Ron/Hermione kiss wasn't as awesome. Still awesome, but not AS awesome. But, this movie did justice to the book, certainly. I'm just still really sad it's over.

That's exactly the type of shit critics would have HATED. I'm okay with them eliminating that really, for this format. If they did some sort of miniseries they could include it.

The R/H kiss was far superior to the H/G first kiss.
