I forbid political discussion in this thread (even though I don't actually have the power to do so).

For all you Americans, I don't care who you vote for, just vote. And vote honest. There is no such thing as a wasted vote.

Also, I have an exam tomorrow, which I think is just unpatriotic. It might be because my professor is Italian, though...

I'll be there though. There are a couple of state issues I want to vote on.

That's a good point. Everyone should also read every proposition on the ballot and make a decision and vote on them. It's the best way, in my opinion even better than electing officials, to shape the country as a citizen.

Wow!!

Mark Twain knew this way back then. Was he clairvoyant?

I'll vote anyway. There are a couple of propositions I'm not in favor of.

There was no really important questions on the ballot in my town/CT. Just some questions on allowing tax money to upgrade various buildings, parks and other equipment in the town I live. But I just rent and don't plan on living there in the distant future so I left those questions blank, just voted in candidates.

Michigan's loaded with controversial proposals. Will be happy the political ads will be gone. Dog to groomer at 8:30, then over to the precinct.

Voted early last week in NC. Waited in line for 2 hours to do it.

But the way I see it, if you don't vote, you have no right to complain about the outcome.

No ballot initiatives at all for me in NC and the governor and US House races were pretty much foregone conclusions. President expected to be a bit closer but you never know.

They have to get through the legal challenges first.

The election is about more than the two guys at the top. Statewide and local initiatives have more capability to directly affect you right away. Do your homework and say your peace.

People all over the world die for the right to do what too many of us skip because we have other things to do.

Very true. It annoys the fuck out of me to see all the assholes I am friends with on FB not giving a shit about voting.

I have the same issue when it comes to the local stuff. I skip a lot of them because I honestly don't know enough about the issue.

Do we have to issue an over/under on how long that takes first then?

My hope really is that things just go smoothly today. I've got my preferred candidate of course (or more accurately, my lesser of two evils), but no matter who wins I just hope it's not a long, messy process to resolve everything.

And yeah, absolutely on the importance. I've voted in every election since I turned 18, even voting by absentee when I was living in Sweden.

Is anyone else making this into a drinking game today? I'm taking a shot for every state that my side wins. Non-voters need not apply.

Oh please... This is going to be a shit show. I truly think this may be dragged out for a few days. But that's a good thing. I'd rather shit be accurate as possible. But Ohio may take up to 10 days to deliver who wins the state.
