LOL I loved how some tried to tell others what was and what wasn't a ballad. :)

Good stuff.

I am surprised this thread is seven pages long and nobody has posted a song from the hair band that killed hair bands because all they could do was play rock ballads, Warrant.

This is an excellent point. Additionally, as soon as a big hair band came out with a power ballad, that was like their swan song as far as commercial success was concerned. It's like "Okay, we're tired of the rock 'n roll life, let's put out this cheezy song and move on to other things".

when I think rock ballad, i think of a suicidal stalker ex and one song hits way to close to home in a scary way that I dont even want to talk about

*shudder*

Oh I almost forgot this one,

:D

The first thing I think when I think ballad is this song....It is basicly the defintion to me...apparently I need a new song to discribe rock ballad

This is the song I thought of posting when I saw the thread, but then again I don't really listen to most traditional rock power ballads, like the 80s hair bands and stuff.

I never really thought of this song as a ballad in the same sense as the hair power ballads, but it was certainly a change of pace for Green Day at the time. Which is why I consider it a bit of a ballad in its own right...
