going to New York soon - is it worth seeking out a Shake Shack for a burger?

Yes it is, avoid the one in Times Square though the line is always out the door.

If you are heading to New York, Puck, I know a great little seafood place that is a well kept secret. It's in Times Square and called the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. They have Cajun Shrimp, Popcorn Shrimp, Stuffed Shrimp, Grilled Shrimp, and then some.

I've never been to Steak Shack though. Here in DC, Five Guys is the burger joint of choice. I guess they are everywhere now though. They've really grown in the last 5-10 years.

Thanks. I think we are staying near Times Square, so we'll just maybe go as off-hours as possible
burger for breakfast, maybe :)

I've been to a Bubba Gump in LA I think. Good option.

Have fun. The first time I went to NY was in '73 with my dad. Just before we got there he told me that NY, "was like something you've never seen before". He was so right.

/mmm....burgers.

I used to work right around the corner from the one at Madison Square Park (5th and 23rd), never had a burger but the shakes are pretty fantastic, hot dog and fries are solid as well. This time of year is great too because the lines shouldn't be too bad.

It's entirely too cold up there right now. Wait til summer to go north, you'll be glad you did.

Uh yeah, but make sure you tell him that's because the entire place is outdoors. At most of the other locations you're not freezing your nuts off even if you're at the front of the line, and you can sit down and eat it in comfort.

Well, it's actually south for me. :)

And it's just a stopover on the way to a Caribbean Cruise, so hopefully we will get a good dose of warmth

There's one that just opened inside Grand Central. Will probably be busy as hell, but an easy location to get to from pretty much anywhere in Manhattan.

YES or even a Five Guys.

We have Five Guys up here. It's OK, I don't find myself craving their burgers at all.
I'm just waiting for In'n'Out to expand a bit closer to home

are Shake Shack burgers similar to Five Guys?

I like Shake Shack way more than Five Guys. I don't even particularly like Five Guys in all honesty, although it's not like I dislike it, it's a burger afterall.

Hell yeah and those cheese fries are really good also. If you go during lunch hours the line will be ridiculous at every shake shack. If you go any other time plz avoid the one on Madison square park which is the original shake shack which is why it's always crowded. I work on the upper east side and the shake shack 2 blocks from my job on 86th and Lexington is usually not too busy after lunch hours

I kind of feel the same way about Five Guys. When I first went, I thought it was awesome, but now it's not all that special

But then again we do have Smash Burger now and two other local burger chains that blow it away. So that could have something to do with it.
