I'll be joining you in the next few months. It just takes awhile to fully delete the account. It's been great for sharing wedding photos. Now, I have no need for it beyond upsetting ex-girl friends (due to the wife's hotness, of course) and laughing at high school acquaintances, which is no need at all. The novelty has worn off.

Wait til you get a bit older, it's fascinating to reconnect with HS friends you haven't seen in a couple decades.

I liked the idea of it when I first saw it, but the interface was so poorly done I could never join just based purely on aesthetic considerations. Whoever originally programmed it was a total hack. And now I'm largely post tech so I don't bother.

Nice article; seems like it's closely related to Dunning-Kruger.

said the hierarchical communitarian.

Well, what's not exactly congruent with D-K is that higher levels of pure education is no defense against biased processing of information. In fact, without strict training otherwise, it actually enhances one's ability to reject sound arguments. So whenever you "win" an argument, you should probably doubt the soundness of your own views - unless you're stupid.

I grew up in a small town that is a revolving door of locals (like The City, but with a fraction of the population and without the ability to avoid anyone), and I moved back (probably for good). Reconnecting is a monthly occurrence, but I definitely see your point. Unfortunately, I've found that the only thing keeping me checking my news feed are the cute baby pictures and occasional public meltdown of individuals and grammar/language as we know it. It's the little things. :)

So it truly isn't whether you win or lose, but how you play the game. Vince Lombardi is rolling in his grave.

That's essentially one of the good byproducts of Law School.

Doesn't offset many negatives, but still...

It is indeed the little things. Of my graduating class of 850, I seriously doubt if more than a couple dozen still live in SF.

Interesting contrast. My graduating class was 430, and at least 100 live in the county, and likely aren't going anywhere (without unknowingly being replaced by another local).
