This is a guy who didn't think baseball would continue testing in the post season and just finished his dose of HGH and got busted. He should have been smarter or at least more aware of the testing rules.

Funny......I surprised myself by being disappointed that Braun got away with cheating. Amplified after he threw "The Collector" under the bus and ran over him a few times - that showed no class whatsoever. Mostly, I guess, I wanted Selig and the BBWAA to have to deal with the reality that the game is not "clean" (and never will be). Given that Braun got off on a technicality, I guess that is still in play.

It does set an interesting precedent and call for further analysis of the whole testing situation. I tend to agree with the view of safe overseeing of "juiced" players for injuries. Of course, that opens up the can of worms that is the "is this a real injury or a cycle?" What is the authority on what is safe? What should they be testing for? What rights do employers have over the personal time of employees (less important given the exorbitant contracts, but still an issue)?

As much as I try to keep entertainment and societal problems separate, this begs for a national discussion on "use versus abuse." Understandably, that is a difficult discussion to have with children, who look up to these athletes no matter the famous Nike/Barkley/Wieden & Kennedy quote. In a country full of people trying to pawn off discussions about sex on television and public schools (or not discussing it at all), what hope do we have for a logical discourse on the other thing you're never supposed to do until you're married... er, old enough/rich enough/legal enough? There are certainly more pressing problems, but now that the fallout from the war on drugs is affecting baseball, I actually care. ;)

I was wondering when my alt would return! Welcome back, brother. FWIW, I agree completely. I didn't think I cared that much until Braun started beating his chest about being innocent.

I can't believe you guys are actually on my side. I'd rep you all if I could right now. Let me reload.

In all honesty...I still kind of suspect him. However, he regularly passes tests, and you can't screw up the process and still charge a guy. He'll go back to clean tests and kicking ass. Good for him.

Not sure what your side is but you can imagine Giants fans being pretty realistic about and unbothered by doping in baseball, for obvious reasons.

Having lived through the circus here I think most of us are like "hey, so many of them do, let's get real about it instead of moralizing"

It's not a moral issue for me, it's a Hebrew and stupidity issue. It differs from Teh Barry b/c steroids and HGH weren't tested for in his days, but are now. Braun has NEVER explained why his testosterone was 12x normal in the sample and his attorney didn't argue that the test was flawed.

He's guilty as fucking sin and got lucky; if he were smart he'd shut the fuck up and play ball instead of beating his "I told you that I was innocent" chest.

Dumb fuck makes us all look bad. :kev::kev:

I don't have much hope for ever having rational national discussions on most social issues. The average human doesn't have the capacity to think critically about issues unless they are given some kind of immediate "soundness" feedback.

Why Humans are stupid

It takes a couple of generations to reverse social mistakes.

Yep. A simple statement by Braun thanking his supporters would have sufficed for me.

And technically, PEDs were not cheating until the players union agreed to banning them. Even now though, I don't really care if a player takes them, but I do admit to having feelings of schadenfreude when Selig's boy got popped after Selig declared the game "clean".

Am I the last person in America not on facebook?

Nope. I never joined either. But pretty much everyone under 30 is on there.

They got to us when we were young and vulnerable by billing it at as exclusively college right after it was exclusively Harvard, then exclusively Ivy League, then exclusively really great schools (U of O was in the next wave). We should have seen the writing on the wall. Now, my mom and dad are addicted to it. Go figure. :csb:

I'll be joining you in the next few months. It just takes awhile to fully delete the account. It's been great for sharing wedding photos. Now, I have no need for it beyond upsetting ex-girl friends (due to the wife's hotness, of course) and laughing at high school acquaintances, which is no need at all. The novelty has worn off.

Nice article; seems like it's closely related to Dunning-Kruger.
