Not only the best Canadien band, but the best 3 man band period. Neal Pert is by far the best drummer alive. Alex Lifeson has always been Underrated as a guitarist IMO. Getty Lee is just an all around great musician. Vocals and bass, the guy is amazing.

I think Danny Carey has surpassed Pert but he is a fantastic drummer.

Matter of opinion and personal taste I suppose, but I'll take, Emerson, Lake & Palmer; King Crimson as a 3 piece (Fripp, Wetton, Bruford) over Rush any time. And I think Rush are great.

I gotta go Rush also.

But no love for:

Paul Anka
Bruce Cockburn - for the name alone!
Gordon Lightfoot
Helix
Men Without Hats - Who can't forget the Safety Dance! I tried but can't...
Saw Anvil mentioned!
and Jeff Healey - RIP.

Red Rider (and later Tom Cochrane and Red Rider) are also a favourite of mine.

I started reading the thread and thought 'I wonder how long until someone mentions Red Rider.' Nice one, Dash. I always liked Mr. Cochrane's work.

I wouldn't call either of these "the best" but a couple of decent ones that haven't been mentioned are Sloan and Our Lady Peace. At least Our Lady Peace use to be good until about 1998.

Also I'm about 99.99% sure that Hanson is American. Their Canadian equivalent at the time were the Moffatts.

Oh and the Trews are probably my favourite current Canadian band. This song has been a favourite of mine since it was used in a video intro for last year's Memorial Cup final. I wish that video was on youtube because it was pretty awesome.

This is definitely the best Canadian band of all-time.....to punch in the face repeatedly. Anyone else remember these guys? I never could quite figure out what this song was about. They are so cleverly subtle. "Gonna make you come tonight....over to my house". Brilliant lyrics.

my first concert: Platinum Blonde
(cut me some slack, I was 14. Made up for it with Judas Priest next)

actually - after listening to the vid, i still like these guys.

another good CDN band from the 80's. the Payola$

Love Paul Hyde's voice. The other driving force in the band (Bob Rock) left to spend more time producing (Metallica, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, etc). Good call - Paul Hyde still lives in East Van, while Bob Rock owns tropical islands.

I'm surprised Mattola hasn't chimed in with Gowan yet.

however, here's one with a hockey tangent to it:
Aldo Nova - from his debut album

His 2nd album was a bit more melancholy (here's where the hockey link kicks in), as he was depressed due to his wife leaving with Gerald Diduck when Diduck was traded to the Canucks.

more way-back machine goodness: Chilliwack!

oh, and this one is for Pix, b/c i think she'll like it if she likes Mumford so much.
Dan Mangan. good Vancouver kid. funny opening to the video.

speaking of Vancouver musicians (from saskatchewan originally) - Colin James kicks total ass.
great strat sound on this one. stick around for the solo and the hot chick. Sly should like this one.

OK, I'm done now.
