This happened last year on Christmas eve too.

From Yahoo news:

ABUJA (Reuters) - Islamist militants set off bombs across Nigeria on Christmas Day - three targeting churches including one that killed at least 27 people - raising fears that they are trying to ignite sectarian civil war.

The Boko Haram Islamist sect, which aims to impose sharia law across the country, claimed responsibility for the three church bombs, the second Christmas in a row the group has caused mass carnage with deadly bombings of churches. Security forces also blamed the sect for two other blasts in the north.

St Theresa's Catholic Church in Madala, a satellite town about 40 km (25 miles) from the center of the capital Abuja, was packed when the bomb exploded just outside.

"We were in the church with my family when we heard the explosion. I just ran out," Timothy Onyekwere told Reuters. "Now I don't even know where my children or my wife are. I don't know how many were killed but there were many dead."

Hours after the first bomb, blasts were reported at the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Church in the central, ethnically and religiously mixed town of Jos, and at a church in northern Yobe state at the town of Gadaka. Residents said many were wounded in Gadaka, but there were no immediate further details.

A suicide bomber killed four security officials at the State Security Service in one of the other bombs, which struck the northeastern town of Damaturu, police said. Residents heard two loud explosions and gunfire in the town.

A Reuters reporter at the church near Abuja saw the front roof had been destroyed, as had several houses nearby. Five burnt out cars were still smouldering. There were scenes of chaos, as shocked residents stared at the wreckage in disbelief.

"Mass just ended and people were rushing out of the church and suddenly I heard a loud sound: 'Gbam!' Cars were in flames and bodies littered everywhere," Nnana Nwachukwu told Reuters.

Father Christopher Barde, Assistant priest of the church, said: "The officials who counted told me they have picked up 27 bodies so far."

Police cordoned off the area around the church. Thousands of furious youths set up burning road blocks on the highway from Abuja leading to Nigeria's largely Muslim north.

Police and the military tried to disperse them by firing live rounds into the air with tear gas.

"We are so angry," shouted Kingsley Ukpabi, as a queue of hooting vehicles lined up behind his flaming barrage.

ATTACKS INCREASE

Boko Haram - which in the Hausa language spoken in northern Nigeria means "Western education is sinful" - is loosely modelled on the Taliban movement in Afghanistan.

It has emerged as the biggest security threat in Nigeria, a country of 160 million split evenly between Christians and Muslims, who for the most part live side by side in peace.

Its low level insurgency used to be largely confined to northeastern Nigeria, but it has struck several parts of the north, center and the capital Abuja this year.

Last Christmas Eve, a series of bomb blasts around Jos killed 32 people, and other people died in attacks on two churches in the northeast.

At the church near Abuja, a wounded man whose legs were almost shattered to pieces by the blast was loaded onto a stretcher near an ambulance by security services.

"I'll survive," he said in a hushed voice.

The blast in Jos, a tinderbox of ethnic and sectarian tensions that sometimes sees deadly clashes between Muslims and Christians, was accompanied by a shooting spree by militants, who exchanged fire with local police, said Charles Ezeocha, special taskforce spokesman for Jos.

"We lost one policeman and we have made four arrests. I think we can use them to get more information and work on that," he said. Police found four other explosive devices in Jos, which they deactivated, he added.

President Goodluck Jonathan, a Christian from the south who is struggling to contain the threat of Islamist militancy, called the incidents "unfortunate" but said Boko Haram would "not be (around) forever. It will end one day."

The White House condemned "this senseless violence and tragic loss of life on Christmas Day."

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon also condemned the attacks and expressed his condolences "to the people of Nigeria and to the bereaved families."

"The Secretary-General calls once again for an end to all acts of sectarian violence in the country and reiterates his firm conviction that no objective sought can justify this resort to violence," a statement released by his office said.

Because it says in the Quran to bomb churches on Christmas Eve? Don't let extremists dilute your common sense.

you say extremists but why is it that EVERYWHERE a predominantly muslim nation comes into contact with ANY other culture (hell, even another sect of islam) this shit happens? talk bad about christianity all you want but we left that shit behind in the middle ages, which is consequently where the muslims still are

Because this is empowering to them. It's an extremely volatile time when it comes to Islam, and the extremists use it as a platform to recruit and carry out these operations.

Stop listening to Faux News and grab the Quran and actually read it.

oh you mean the part of the quran about killing infidels

Verse 9:123 - "Believers, make war on the infidels who dwell around you."

«And Fight those who have not faith in God, nor in the Hereafter, and (who) forbid not what God and His Prophet have forbidden and (who ) are not committed to the religion of truth, of those who have been brought the Book, until they pay tribute by hand, and they are the low.» (9:29)

Qur’an:9:5 “Fight and kill the disbelievers wherever you find them, take them captive, harass them, lie in wait and ambush them using every stratagem of war.”

There are plenty of good muslim ppl but this is in their book and the high numbers of extremists would not exist without an enabling society

Lol...that usual verses Islamophobes use to paint the picture that Islam is violent.

Did you read the entire chapter? Do you know the context? How about you read the FIRST verse of that chapter, which says:

[This is a declaration of] disassociation, from Allah and His Messenger, to those with whom you had made a treaty among the polytheists.9:1

Do you know the story behind the Muslims and the Polytheists in Mecca and Jedah?

Keep going to 9:4:

Excepted are those with whom you made a treaty among the polytheists and then they have not been deficient toward you in anything or supported anyone against you; so complete for them their treaty until their term [has ended]. Indeed, Allah loves the righteous [who fear Him].

9:5-6:

And when the sacred months have passed, then kill the polytheists wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they should repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, let them [go] on their way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

And if any one of the polytheists seeks your protection, then grant him protection so that he may hear the words of Allah . Then deliver him to his place of safety. That is because they are a people who do not know.

Even if you look TWO verses before 123 you can get some context:

9:120
It was not [proper] for the people of Madinah and those surrounding them of the bedouins that they remain behind after [the departure of] the Messenger of Allah or that they prefer themselves over his self. That is because they are not afflicted by thirst or fatigue or hunger in the cause of Allah , nor do they tread on any ground that enrages the disbelievers, nor do they inflict upon an enemy any infliction but that is registered for them as a righteous deed. Indeed, Allah does not allow to be lost the reward of the doers of good.

9:122
And it is not for the believers to go forth [to battle] all at once. For there should separate from every division of them a group [remaining] to obtain understanding in the religion and warn their people when they return to them that they might be cautious.

You're spewing the same BS and drivel that a website like answering-islam spews. Complete nonsense by cherry-picking "violent" texts from the Quran with no background information or context or story.

Enabling society? How is that even possible with the pseudo territorial lines that Europe aimlessly drew throughout the Middle East and Northern Africa after colonizing them?

Europe thought they can negate centuries of sectarian tensions in those areas by drawining BS state lines throughout the area? C'mon.

From my understanding there are extreme Shi'ites that believe Ali was the heir of (the messenger) Muhammad, and Ali knowingly fought a war he would ultimately lose out of honor, and that's the (mis)interpretation that leads to all of these tragedies.

Here are some inappropriate videos in case you want to laugh:

I'm not an Islamaphobe at all, I support them against these attacks all the time, but I don't see how this helps. I don't think leaving the option to kill along with a command of when to do it, qualifies as truly peaceful. Even with the parts about who to spare. If that passage was implemented in today's world, No devout religious person or atheist is going to just kick their views to the side. Those people fall under the "to be killed" category. The people willing to pretend and go along with it, would have psychological issues to deal with from the years of fear and suppression. I agree with your overall message, I just don't agree that this is good evidence for peace.

That said, there is is over 1.2 billion Muslim's in the world, anyone who believes the majority of their population is made up of violent terrorists, is ignorant/bigoted. These terrorist groups aren't very big, they just make big impacts that are impossible to over look. Violent Muslims, is like ********* Christians, it's an undeniable presence, but only the hateful generalize entire groups based on the failures of a few. The devout extremist image gets more air time, as effective war time propaganda, but Islam is like every other ancient religion in a modern world. it's full of modern people who cherry pick and overlook the outdated stuff. Which is part of why so many Muslims have also been killed by Muslim extremists.

Ishaq:587 “Our onslaught will not be a weak faltering affair. We shall fight as long as we live. We will fight until you turn to Islam, humbly seeking refuge. We will fight not caring whom we meet. We will fight whether we destroy ancient holdings or newly gotten gains. We have mutilated every opponent. We have driven them violently before us at the command of Allah and Islam. We will fight until our religion is established. And we will plunder them, for they must suffer disgrace.”

Tabari IX:69 “Arabs are the most noble people in lineage, the most prominent, and the best in deeds. We were the first to respond to the call of the Prophet. We are Allah’s helpers and the viziers of His Messenger. We fight people until they believe in Allah. He who believes in Allah and His Messenger has protected his life and possessions from us. Qur’an:9:19 “Do you make the giving of drink to pilgrims, or the maintenance of the Mosque, equal to those who fight in the Cause of Allah? They are not comparable in the sight of Allah. Those who believe, and left their homes, striving with might, fighting in Allah’s Cause with their goods and their lives, have the highest rank in the sight of Allah.”
Ishaq:550 “The Muslims met them with their swords. They cut through many arms and skulls. Only confused cries and groans could be heard over our battle roars and snarling.”

Ishaq:578 “Crushing the heads of the infidels and splitting their skulls with sharp swords, we continually thrust and cut at the enemy. Blood gushed from their deep wounds as the battle wore them down. We conquered bearing the Prophet’s fluttering war banner. Our cavalry was submerged in rising dust, and our spears quivered, but by us the Prophet gained victory.”
Tabari IX:22 “The Prophet continued to besiege the town, fighting them bitterly.”
Tabari IX:25 “By Allah, I did not come to fight for nothing. I wanted a victory over Ta’if so that I might obtain a slave girl from them and make her pregnant.”
Tabari IX:82 “The Messenger sent Khalid with an army of 400 to Harith [a South Arabian tribe] and ordered him to invite them to Islam for three days before he fought them. If they were to respond and submit, he was to teach them the Book of Allah, the Sunnah of His Prophet, and the requirements of Islam. If they should decline, then he was to fight them.”
Tabari IX:88 “Abdallah Azdi came to the Messenger, embraced Islam, and became a good Muslim. Allah’s Apostle invested Azdi with the authority over those who had surrendered and ordered him to fight the infidels from the tribes of Yemen. Azdi left with an army by the Messenger’s command. The Muslims besieged them for a month. Then they withdrew, setting a trap. When the Yemenites went in pursuit, Azdi was able to inflict a heavy loss on them.”
Ishaq:530 “Get out of his way, you infidel unbelievers. Every good thing goes with the Apostle. Lord, I believe in his word. We will fight you about its interpretations as we have fought you about its revelation with strokes that will remove heads from shoulders and make enemies of friends.”
Muslim:C9B1N29 “Command For Fighting Against People So Long As They Do Not Profess That There Is No Ilah (God) But Allah And Muhammad Is His Messenger: When the Messenger breathed his last and Bakr was appointed Caliph, many Arabs chose to become apostates [rejected Islam]. Abu Bakr said: ‘I will definitely fight against anyone who stops paying the Zakat tax, for it is an obligation. I will fight against them even to secure the cord used for hobbling the feet of a camel which they used to pay if they withhold it now.’ Allah had justified fighting against those who refused to pay Zakat.”

Muslim:C9B1N33 “The Prophet said: ‘I have been commanded to fight against people till they testify there is no god but Allah, that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and they establish prostration prayer, and pay Zakat. If they do it, their blood and property are protected.’”
Muslim:C10B1N176 “Muhammad (may peace be upon him) sent us in a raiding party. We raided Huraqat in the morning. I caught hold of a man and he said: ‘There is no god but Allah,’ but I attacked him with a spear anyway. It once occurred to me that I should ask the Apostle about this. The Messenger said: ‘Did he profess “There is no god but Allah,” and even then you killed him?’ I said: ‘He made a profession out of the fear of the weapon I was threatening him with.’ The Prophet said: ‘Did you tear out his heart in order to find out whether it had professed truly or not?’”
Muslim:C20B1N4597 “The Prophet said at the conquest of Mecca: ‘There is no migration now, but only Jihad, fighting for the Cause of Islam. When you are asked to set out on a Jihad expedition, you should readily do so.’”
Muslim:C28B20N4628 “Allah has undertaken to provide for one who leaves his home to fight for His Cause and to affirm the truth of His word; Allah will either admit him to Paradise or will bring him back home with his reward and booty.”
Muslim:C28B20N4629 “The Messenger said: ‘One who is wounded in the Way of Allah—and Allah knows best who is wounded in His Way—will appear on the Day of Judgment with his wound still bleeding. The color (of its discharge) will be blood, (but) its smell will be musk.’”
Muslim:C34B20N4652-3 “The Merit Of Jihad And Of Keeping Vigilance Over The Enemy: A man came to the Holy Prophet and said: ‘Who is the best of men?’ He replied: ‘A man who fights staking his life and spending his wealth in Allah’s Cause.’”
Muslim:C42B20N4684 “A desert Arab came to the Prophet and said: ‘Messenger, one man fights for the spoils of war; another fights that he may be remembered, and one fights that he may see his (high) position (achieved as a result of his valor in fighting). Which of these is fighting in the Cause of Allah?’ The Messenger of Allah said: ‘Who fights so that the word of Allah is exalted is fighting in the Way of Allah.’”
Muslim:C53B20N4717 “The Prophet said: ‘This religion will continue to exist, and a group of people from the Muslims will continue to fight for its protection until the Hour is established.’”
Bukhari:V5B59N288 “I witnessed a scene that was dearer to me than anything I had ever seen. Aswad came to the Prophet while Muhammad was urging the Muslims to fight the pagans. He said, ‘We shall fight on your right and on your left and in front of you and behind you.’ I saw the face of the Prophet getting bright with happiness, for that saying delighted him.”
Bukhari:V5B59N290 “The believers who did not join the Ghazwa [Islamic raid or invasion] and those who fought are not equal in reward.”
Qur’an:2:193 “Fight them until there is no more Fitnah (disbelief) and religion is only for Allah. But if they cease/desist, let there be no hostility except against infidel disbelievers.”
Qur’an:2:217 “They question you concerning fighting in the sacred month. Say: ‘Fighting therein is a grave (matter); but to prevent access to Allah, to deny Him, to prevent access to the Sacred Mosque, to expel its members, and polytheism are worse than slaughter. Nor will they cease fighting you until they make you renegades from your religion. If any of you turn back and die in unbelief, your works will be lost and you will go to Hell. Surely those who believe and leave their homes to fight in Allah’s Cause have the hope of Allah’s mercy.”
Qur’an:2:244 “Fight in Allah’s Cause, and know that Allah hears and knows all.”

When half of what your prophet says is "taken out of context" it might be time to find a new one

i am aware that mohammed married a girl when she was six and consummated when she was 9...before she would even have started menstruating...please put that in any other context but pedophilia for me...im sure most muslims are normal, attempting to be moral, ppl like anyone else but their base ideology is flawed and their prophet was in reality a power-seizing, selfish genius like stalin or hitler...w/o the capability to kill as many ppl

I'm not an Islamaphobe at all, I support them against these attacks all the time, but I don't see how this helps. I don't think leaving the option to kill along with a command of when to do it, qualifies as truly peaceful.

You don't have to add that disclaimer, X. You're a fair and logical person and I don't think anyone will accuse you of that regardless of your opinion on this. That said, of course this helps. That particular chapter is about the Polytheists in the Mecca/Jedah that consistently attacked, ambushed, and prosecuted the newly converted Muslims. The only situation where the Quran permits violence is when it's in self-defense. When Muslims are being persecuted and disallowed from practicing their religion, as that was the case when that "Surah" was written. That is the literal meaning of Jihad.

But you can't compare those times to today's world. That's your inherent flaw. Every Surah released to the Muslims comes behind a context/story that was happening to them at the time. The particular one that boomtown showed, like I said earlier, was written after the Muslims were persecuted and slaugtered by the Polytheists in Mecca. The Surah was written to give permission to the Muslims to defend themselves, and clearly states that if they repent or seek refuge with the Muslims then they should let them have that.

This is one of the most famous verses in the Quran that sums this up:

Fight in the cause of God against those who fight you, but do not transgress limits. God does not love transgressors. (2:190)

Also this verse, which comes at the end of all the BS that boomtown just posted about chapter 2:

If they seek peace, then seek you peace. And trust in God for He is the One that heareth and knoweth all things. (8:61)

The Qurna makes it clear over and over again that self-defense/defense of Islam is the only time any Muslim is allowed to turn violent.

Well said. Completely agree.

Depending on who you read her age ranged from 9 years old to 15 years old at time of marriage. There is no concrete evidence pointing in either direction. Just extremists on both sides trying to paint their off-base argument in the wrong light.

Quite frankly, your post is disgusting. You're just as bad at the terrorist leaders who cherry-pick verses out of the Quran to recruit and brainwash young Muslims by making it seem that Islam and Muslims are being persecuted. It's not hard to go on google and type "violent verses from Quran" and get what you posted. Please note, however, that every verse comes from a context and a story. Not that I expect you to read about them, though.

Just as easily though, I can post hadiths that are pro peace:

“Whoever kills a person who has a truce with the Muslims will never smell the fragrance of Paradise.” (Saheeh Muslim)

“Beware! Whoever is cruel and hard on a non-Muslim minority, or curtails their rights, or burdens them with more than they can bear, or takes anything from them against their free will; I (Prophet Muhammad) will complain against the person on the Day of Judgment.” (Abu Dawud)

"He who believes in God and the Last Day should honour his guest, should not harm his neighbour, should speak good or keep quiet." (Bukhari, Muslim)

"Whoever hurts a Non-Muslim citizen of a Muslim state hurts me, and he who hurts me annoys God." (Bukhari)

"He who hurts a Non-Muslim citizen of a Muslim state, I am his adversary, and I shall be his adversary on the Day of a Judgement." (Bukhari)

"Beware on the Day of Judgement; I shall mysefl be complainant against him who wrongs a Non-Muslim citizen of a Muslim state or lays on him a responsibility greater than he can bear or deprives him of anything that belongs to him." (Al-Mawardi)

"Anyone who kills a Non-Muslim who had become our ally will not smell the fragrance of Paradise." (Bukhari)

Here's a specific verse from the Quran stipulating that monastaries, churches, and synagogues MUST be respected:

…if God had not driven some people back by means of others, monasteries, churches, synagogues and mosques, where God's name is mentioned much, would have been pulled down and destroyed. God will certainly help those who help Him-God is All-Strong, Almighty. (Qur'an, 22:40)

Love your posts Clyde. Rep.

I find it ridiculous for anyone to attack another's faith by attacking the "Holy Scripture" of that faith. One can just as easily find violent passages from The Torah/Bible that, if taken out of context, would lead an ignorant person to feel justified to hate/harm others.

For example: “When the LORD your God brings you into the land where you are entering to possess it, and clears away many nations before you, the Hittites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Canaanites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and stronger than you. And when the LORD your God delivers them before you and you defeat them, then you shall utterly destroy them. You shall make no covenant with them and show no favor to them. (Deutronomy 7:1-2)

And you can find passages from The New Testament that, if read literally and without context, support slavery, subjugation of women, violence, etc.

At the end of the day, I think of the Muslims (and Mormons, Jews, and Catholics for that matter) I have known in my life. The overwhelming majority of them have been cool, and treat me with kindness. Their actions exhibit humility, discipline, and respect.

It is my interaction with Muslims that has led me to have a positive view of Islam. No verses/tragic bombings will change that.
