OT: AAA bent my car door

It's the best way to go. Buying new is stupid. Buy something a year old with like less than 10k miles on it, you will save so much. The depreciation a vehicle gets when you drive it off the lot new is ridiculous.

Also, I think I have made up my mind on like a 2011/2012 Ford Escape XLT. It's pretty much all I need. Decent MPG for an SUV, roomy, bells and whistles, American. 2-3 more months. Can't wait to get a new vehicle.

My Dad just got a Chevy Malibu last year for work (but pays on it still? I don't get it...), and is in love with that car. It has some bells and whistles and I think the fact that he FITS is what sold him. I think it's the first Chevy my Dad has had, but he loves it. Personally, I drive a Toyota Sienna. I know...I know. the top right corner of my driver side door is bent out away from the car a little so it leaks air and is very noisy when i'm driving over about 40 mph

And either way, how to fix that? Fucking call AAA. Make their asses pay.

i havent had to use AAA in a while, but if im not mistaken, it wasnt AAA that fucked up your car, but the company they sent out to help...call that company, make them pay

I also own a slightly used Chevy Malibu and I absolutely love it. It's a great running car, and has great gas mileage. I had a SUV (Yukon) for a long time, but since my kids are grown I didn't need that big a vehicle anymore. I love my car.

I agree with Jeff (again, shockingly ) I wouldn't buy a new car either.

I understand that logic, but you are going to be paying well over the 'value' of the car when you buy used too. A lot of the low mileage used cars have been traded in for a reason. Sometimes it nothing serious, other times its not. I have just been told many times that when everything is taken into consideration it makes as much sense to buy new as it does used. lol, and not from people trying to sell me something either.

I do know many people who only buy used and have gotten good cars that lasted for 15 years too.

I also admit I am not a car guy and have never bought what I consider an expensive car. My last one was close in my opinion. For me a car is simply transportation so if its comfortable, economical and safe I am happy. Maybe if I was looking at more expensive cars and saw the difference between new and used I would lean more toward used but in the lower priced stuff I look at the difference is usually not so great.

My car is 10 years old now, I hope it lasts a long time. I don't want a car payment.

Usually cars with that low of mileage are demos from the dealership (if its only like a year old).

For me it depends on the brand and type of car. The car I have now holds its resale extraordinarily well, so when I was looking at 1-2 year old used cars, I was only saving a thousand bucks or so, so I bought new.

Car before that though was one of those where the new value dropped like a rock as soon as you pulled off the lot. So that was definitely used.

just because it's not your thing, doesn't mean it's stupid.
I don't like leftovers. To me, there is value in getting one fresh out of the factory. I have bought all of my cars new, and tend to drive them for 7-10 years. I'm OK with the value o that.
Hell, after my first apartment, the past three homes I have bought were brand new as well. (that may change on the next one, though)

if we are just spouting opinions, i think buying an american car is stupid. They have been inferior products for about 20 years, with very very few exceptions.




edit: just remembered, the car I bought my wife was a demo, to technically that's kind of used.
I think it had 4,000km on it.

Looks like a toss up between a Ford Escape and a Honda Pilot for now. Luckily my father is really good friends with a car dealership owner. He can get me something wholesale from the auction. I would prefer the Pilot just based on reviews and ammenities, but its a little more pricey than the Escape.

As far as buying American...I sincerely think that they're getting close to the Asian dealers. They're starting to catch up. I really do wish they wouldn't hold back the technology they have, but just the way it goes I guess.

My Uncle loves his Honda Pilot. He has an older one he uses for work, and he just recently bought a brand new one with pretty much every upgrade possible. The thing is amazing. It is pretty sad how behind American cars are with the Japanese technology. I felt like I was in a space ship in my Uncles Pilot over the weekend.

I haven't purchased any new cars in the States and in both cases they were already off warranty, but yeah, if you buy new and depending on the make (Toyota and Honda made a big stink about it), the warranty will be voided. I think you may have better luck if you buy American though.
