My mom and her family came to Canada a million years ago.
She was 16 when she got Canadian citizenship, and lost her Dutch passport by doing it. Her brother was 12, and he had to make a legal challenge later in life saying the was too young to have made that decision, and spend five more years living in Holland, just to get it back.

Maybe before the EU/Schengen they didn't allow dual there.

I dunno. I like BC a lot more than I expected to. Could find something special here and rest happily.

I like it out here on the island as well. I'm 20 minutes away from multiple places to put my kayak in the water and a little over 2 hours away from skiing in winter. I think I'm staying here for the rest of my life.

Honest question, why bother?

I can understand if you're coming from a place where your movements and such are significantly limited that there's benefit to getting citizenship, but coming from Canada, what's the incentive beyond voting?

id guess theres a taxation benefit depending on the state of habitation. I know when my bro/sis in law made their move south they decided to liquidate their cdn tfsa because when it came to taxing worldwide income the irs didnt consider that kind of account tax free from their perspective.

/i believe im still a dual cdn/italian citizen. That govt sent me my military service hono(U)rable discharge papers and they keep sending voter notification letters to my parents house so i must be i guess lol

I've gone kayaking around Deep Cove/Salmon Arm each of the last three weekends. Hooked.

I lived 5 minutes from water most of my life and never kayaked or anything like that. Go figure lol

my brother and his wife bought a place in palm springs 2 months ago and their intention is moving back to canada in the next 18 months lol

Yeah, Palm Springs isn't the oasis it used to be.

/That said, I still want to visit the BNP Paribas Open tennis tourney one day.

Id say mostly for environmental reasons though. They havent even spent time at their place because while it has a pool and a/c its unbearably scorching in the summer. When they spent time there in the past they would go to the mall, movie theatre and casino and those are off limits now so why go lol

they (And I :eyebrows:)will use it as their winter getaway when they move back to canada

/and i thought for sure dash would love palm springs because they have all those golf courses tailored to seniors that feature greens that are sloped / funnel to the holes

That actually looks like a younger version of the My Pillow guy, in my opinion.
