so, he walked away from 14 mill.
gonna be real interesting to see what his next deal might look like
- 35 years old
- missed entire year of hockey
- history of weight issues
- ankle so bad that ... well, he missed an entire year of hockey.
- potentially cap-restricted upcoming season

opening bid: 1 year 2-way deal $800k/$250k

There's no way he takes that. He's gone on the record on countless occasions to say he doesn't like to play hockey, he's just good at it. He's done.

oh I know he wouldn't take that.
my point was anyone offering more than that is taking a risk.

Looks like the Jackets are going to give him a second chance.

Ooops

Columbus Blue Jackets Sign Mikhail Grigorenko

The NHL has rejected the Grigorenko contract because the filing window for deals starting next season has not opened yet. Though teams are allowed to sign previously drafted prospects or undrafted players that have never played in the NHL, they are not allowed to sign a player like Grigorenko until the normal free agent period opens.

On that note what is the difference here?
Canadiens agree to terms with goaltender Vasili Demchenko

Is it due to being a two-way deal and he never was in the NHL prior?

I thought all khl contracts are end dated April 30 ?

The differentiator here seems to be that Grigorenko was drafted by an NHL team previously. Undrafted players are UFA and free to sign with who they want when they want (College UFAs for example). The only stipulation is that if they sign after a certain date, they are ineligible to play in that season's playoffs.

Demchenko was never drafted.

The Jackets could have signed him for the remainder of this season, and next season and it would be allowed, but Griogorenko would have to go through waivers. I doubt Grigorenko would be snatched on waivers, but you never know. I am thinking the Jackets are convinced this season is toast so they aimed at next year.

They just have to wait until UFA day. It will also be interesting to see if the season is cancelled if the contract is approved at that point. The sticking point seems to be that it's for next year, not this one.

(All of this based on random stories and opinions I have been reading and I have no idea if it's all or even partly true)

KHL did officially cancel this year, so technically it's over already.

One of the best things in that first couple of years was watching a heavyweight discover that Rick was a southpaw.
Word traveled much slower than you would have expected.
I recall Stortini was more than a little surprised by his left.

How "neutral"?

Like NHL cities without a team in the playoffs, or non NHL cities?

I mean... KC, Houston, Indianapolis and Quebec City could be great choices.
