I actually think it's a decent haul for Montreal considering they had no leverage whatsoever. Decent, top 6 forward, the 13th overall pick last year and a 2nd?
He might be a top 6 forward in Montreal but that's the equivalent of a minor leaguer at this point. One who makes $5 mil/yr.I actually think it's a decent haul for Montreal considering they had no leverage whatsoever. Decent, top 6 forward, the 13th overall pick last year and a 2nd?
If he's an improvement on James Neal that will mean Vegas added Patches and Stastny while subtracting Neal and Suzuki (ignoring what he gave up for Tatar for a second). If Max goes 30+ again, it's good work.I actually think (hope) Max has some left in the tank. He's a good goal scorer but with the beating and injuries he has taken over the years I feel that he will get old and his skills will diminish quickly.
The expansion draft will never stop haunting Columbus.
If they trade him now? Pretty much.So with Vegas getting Patches, that effectively takes them out of the running for Erik Karlsson. Who does that leave, Tampa Bay and Dallas?

I think he's wrong. Per the Wikipedia page for that draft:

I think he's wrong. Per the Wikipedia page for that draft:
CBJ's pick was 24, and in exchange for Vegas not picking whoever it was the Jets didn't want them picking they flipped 1st rounders and Vegas wound up with Winnipeg's pick which was 13, which they used on Suzuki. Marshall is thinking about pick 15 that Vegas got from super GM Garth Snow.
- The Winnipeg Jets' first-round pick went to the Vegas Golden Knights as the result of a trade on June 21, 2017, that sent Columbus' first-round pick in 2017 to Winnipeg in exchange for Vegas selecting Chris Thorburn in the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft from Winnipeg, a third-round pick in 2019 and this pick.[9]

I suppose but Vegas doesn't get #13 without Columbus' #24. But yeah, he wasn't drafted with CBJ's pick.Right, so had the Jackets not been involved in any way their pick would have been 24 (Veseleinen) and not 13. So it's not really accurate to say the Jackets pick that year was one of the assets in the Pacioretty trade. Vegas already owned 24 which they swapped for 13. Columbus would not have been involved in 13 in any way.
