I honestly can't name a single cricket player - I realize it's a huge sport in India, Pakistan, and other places, but are you telling me that Crosby or Ovechkin can't crack the top 100 worldwide?
Ovie had 2.7 million twitter followers. I'm pretty sure that's how many Indian people show up to a cricket match.

So yeah, I can believe it. Internationally speaking, hockey is probably what, the 7th most popular sport at best? Throw in the fact that the most lively personality in the game right now is probably the guy who licks peoples faces and it's not really surprising.

Interesting Trivia Alert:

3 teams have made the Stanley Cup final in their Inaugural Season. Each one exactly 50 years apart.

1918 Toronto Arenas
1968 St Louis Blues
2018 as Vegas Golden Knights

So the question is, when Quebec finally gets a team, will they wait til 2068 to ensure success?
a bit before my time, but i think for the 1968 one, the entire west was expansion clubs, so there was always one
shit team to come out of the west and get swept by Montreal or Boston.
I think it was even St Louis that made it to the finals 3 years in a row and didn't win a single game

Its OK to the NHL because the Leafs are getting one of the Isles first round picks this year as comp for Lou.
that rule is off the books, fwiw.
(so thanks for Jonah Gadjovich, Mr Tortorella!)

It's an ESPN list, so naturally hockey doesn't exist.

And second of all, I call bullshit that LeBron James is more well known than Messi, Neymar, Federer, etc. in the world.

And I guarantee a LOT of people know who Lewis Hamilton is. Outside the US of course.

1968 Montreal swept St Louis in 4 games, decided by one goal each, 2 in overtime.

Off again. He seems to have built a revolving door around Barbara Palvin, One of the Jenner/Kardashians (who knows/who cares) and Rihanna. And possibly one of Lionel Richie's daughters.

OV was the highest ranked hockey player at 133, Crosby next at 157 and third was Kovlachuk at 193 or something close to that. I believe Luongo was 4th and rounding out the top five for hockey was Tom Wilson.

Wonder Mcdavid wasn't in the top 5. I know it's ESPN and he plays in Edmonton but still he's among the game's best players and should have been ranked higher especially ahead of Tom Wilson.

I actually have no idea who that is.. I mean I'd like to know her INTIMATELY, but I really have no clue who she is.

Her name is Nicole Scherzinger (also more famous worldwide than LeBron James, BTW). While Googling her, you should probably also Google Barbara Palvin.

And Lewis currently has a net worth around 250 mil.

Worth noting that there aren't any MLBers on there either and ESPN has a lot of baseball coverage.

I googled her, and frankly I still don't really knw who she is. never heard of anything she did. I guess I really am as out of touch as my kids say I am.

Ironically enough, I did know who Hamilton is...though I'm not really an auto racing guy.

and yes, Ms. Palvin is quite, umm, appealing (had never heard of her either until your post though).

Dreger with the confirmation that Kane has won Lotto 6/49, er 7/49.

Don't Cha wish your girlfriend was a freak like her?

I honestly probably would not have heard of either of them myself if they weren't shown incessantly during F1 broadcasts. After seeing them once... you tend to notice again.

I actually know what you're referring to here. That was her? Hey, maybe I'm not as out of touch as I thought.
