The Randy comes back to the ACC tonight. Waffles at the ready, folks.

Freddy Andersen also faces his former club. Since his 6th game of the season he's put up a .947 sv%, which is insane. The guys the Ducks have gone with in net in his place haven't exactly been great - John Gibson is shredding at a .906% clip while wee Johnny Berns is is stopping at 5 points lower than that.

lundquist 389 win ties hasek.....

Hank is an infinitely better goalie than Dominik ever was.

But then again, even Chris Osgood was better than that spastic piece of shit.

Yeah, that hurt. With that, he's down to +14. That's only +9 better than the Canucks leader, Luca Sbisa.

When your total mismanagement of your goaltending situation is the difference between your team being great and horrible:

Defintiely not good in nets, but I wonder how much of that falls on a D corps that is not even really NHL level.

Klingberg
Benn
the corpse of Dan Hamhuis
Johnny Oduya

is their top 4. At this point only Klingberg is a bonafide top 4 in that group and he's playing like shit this year.

Lets-them-in and Pro Niemi are not good but I wonder what even a good NHL goalie could do with that group in front of them.

There is a really good chance that Las Vegas could have a better top 4 than that right out of the gate.

Eh. They're mid-pack in shots against yet in the bottom third in attempts against meaning the D is doing a passable job at the very least of keeping shots off goal.

They could be better but if the D is barely NHL level those goalers are purely AHL level at this point.

Let-em-in was the main reason the Thrashers never did anything in Atlanta, is capable of good games here and there, but I don't think any coach has faith in him to deliver when he really counts.

Or it may be that half of the shots that the goalies are getting are ricocheting off of and/or threading through a maze of shin pads, making them more difficult to stop.

I don't know if that's what's happening and I rather doubt that it is, I'm just saying that there's some noise there. And truth be told this is the effect that no one ever seems to talk about when praising shot blocking, which is kind of why it popped in my mind.

Maybe. I couldn't find any team blocked shot stats (weird) so if Dallas is high in that regard it's a possibility.

But, a mediocre-to-bad defence and horrific goaltenders go pretty badly in tandem. It's easier to find a goalie that isn't horrendous than it is to re-build a defence, especially when you're waiting on young talent to grow. Of course, Dallas' window is probably already starting to close given the ages of their guys not named Klingberg, Seguin and Benn so it might be worth it for them to start shopping.

Now that he's the first American born coach to 500 wins, maybe it's time to update the Torts mugshot on hockeydb.com
