On NHL Network, Kevin Weekes and Mike Johnston just gave their top 3 in the race for the Calder at the (more or less) quarter point.

Weeksie:
1) Laine
2) Werenski
3) Marner

Johnston:
1) Werenski
2) Laine
3) Marner.

Weekes had Mathews 5th, Johnston had him 6th. Both had Nylander and Marner ahead of Mathews. I found that interesting.

Barry Trotz sticking his neck out over a call last night. What is he so upset about? I'm stumped.



If it was embellishment, it would have looked a bit like this:

Backstrom's stick grazed Nick's visor, he flinched and then went on with the play.

He's good for 40 I think. In the AHL.

I still don't get why he was waived though. Sure he has looked worse than bad, but half the top 6 is injured right now. Give a guy who has scored at every other level a chance up there and see if he can be a finisher. Doesn't make sense to me but will probably turn into a nothing move.

I'm far less pissed about this than I was about the Prince trade last year.

Since dash is preoccupied, I'll kindly advise that Edmonton is now 2-0-0 since Kris Russell returned and are 9-3-1 overall with him in the lineup and 2-5-0 with him out of it.

I hate Trotz whining about that. It's sort of human reaction that anything that gets within two inches of your face, even if it doesn't touch you, will cause you to flinch.
