Reports were that they were looking at ribs primarily and also considering the risk of any internal damage.

We can't have nice things :gaah:

I'm happy to see that missing those three pre-season games has really changed the way Andrew Shaw plays the game...

If you wanted nice things why trade for Evander Kane?
When he doesn't have his head firmly up his ass - which isn't nearly as often as I'd like - he's a good player. And given that we're already down our best player, probably our second best, and a top pairing D man, we could every healthy body we can get.

So, I turned on the Ducks game. Within a minute, Jared Boll took a charging penalty.

I laughed and breathed a huge sigh of relief.

Is he though? Guy has one 30 goal season, last year was the only other time he even hit 20, he's had over 50 pts once, his shooting percentage has been mired in the 7% range for the last 3 years which is, in a word, bad (for comparison, David Clarkson's shooting % with the Leafs was 8%). Worse for a guy who has a grand total of 59 primary assists 5 on 5 in 430 NHL games.

The topper is that things have been getting worse, not better, as he's gotten older. I just don't see the plus side in him.

Hopefully he gets a meeting with the DPOS. No that isn't a typo.

He's not as good as you'd hope for a 4th overall (although 2009 was a pretty weak draft), but yeah, I think he is, when he's actually healthy. As you point out, only one 50 point season and two 20 goal seasons, but he's also only played more than 70 games twice in his career - one being his 30/57 season. Some of those missed games were clearly of his own doing (see "head up ass" above), but he's also had a lot of injuries to deal with.

Over the course of a full season he'd generally be good for 20-25/45-50 based on career history, probably a little higher if he played with some decent talent around him, which ROR and Okposo would certainly qualify. Those are numbers that I'd classify as good, but not great.

He's a good player. He HAD the potential to be excellent; he just hasn't gotten it through his head that he needs to bust his ass. As for 4th overall? He's actually pretty average, IMO. Below is the last 20 (who've had a year to get their career going) 4th overall picks with GP G A PIM. Not exactly wall-to-wall stars. Makes me realize once again how much people overvalue draft picks and tanking (unless it is Oiler level tanking).

But as you say, he's never healthy and even when he is he's struggling to make out as well as he did when he was 20/21 and playing with even shittier linemates on an even shittier team.

Guess I just don't see the bright side in him, even minus all the nonsense.

You're still more likely than not to get a top 6/top 4 player at 4.

Also, most of those late 90s/early 00s drafts were awful after the first pick or two regardless.
