Looked like the Rangers thought they already had it... in the bank

This is what I love about Sportshoopla's NHL board. We basically have about two dozen bits we all do, and we recycle them constantly... and I still find them hilarious years later.

Also, that most days I actually learn something new about hockey and some of the other teams around the league. ...And a little about dinosaurs.

It's the Three's Company formula for chat forum success.

/although I think they only had two or three bits they recycled constantly.

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Colorado Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov, Washington Capitals right-wing T.J. Oshie and Minnesota Wild centre Mikko Koivu have been named the NHL three stars of the week.

Varlamov was named first star after posting a 3-0-0 record with a 0.67 goals-against average, .981 save percentage and one shutout to help the Avalanche extend their winning streak to five games.

His week was highlighted by a 3-0 win over Chicago on Tuesday in which he stopped all 29 shots he faced, including 20 over the final two periods.

Oshie earned second-star honours after leading the NHL with five goals and shared the league lead with eight points as the Capitals won all four of their games to move into first place in the overall standings.

Koivu tied for first in the NHL with eight points (three goals, five assists) in three games to lift the Wild to a pair of wins.

Wild have signed Jared Spurgeon to a 4 year contract extension with an AAV of 5.1875 million. He's a little on the small side, but a very good skater with nice offensive skill. A couple of years younger than Kris Russell and it makes me wonder if this contract could be used as a comparable for Russell.

/If so, I don't see Russell signing with for those kind of dollars with the Flames, he'll have to go elsewhere.
//I'd go up to 4 million max per season for Kris on a three year term.

is there any doubt where he's signing?

on that note ... it will be long term ... and an overpay of course!

I think he won a top CHL defenseman of the year award under Willie D.

well hopefully he can replicate that type of performance under Travis Green

Sorry, I don't get that suspension when I have seen much worse hits (including headshots) not even get any type of review. I'm more confused than I have ever been with the DOPeS.

Actually one of the better explanations. I might have given him 3-4, but that's just me.

That was totally uncalled for and dangerous.

I don't disagree, but I don't know what differentiates this totally uncalled for and dangerous hit from the several other uncalled for and dangerous hits I've seen that didn't even warrant a review. Just my opinion, but I think this suspension of Max Talbot is more a case of timing and criticism of the DOPeS than anything else.

Reminiscent of Pavel Bure (Bure did it at higher speed though).

I agree with you. I think they got this one right and lots of those other hits wrong though.
