Was Vachon considered a sieve in his day?

Rogie is the reason East Coast bias is a term.
I was going to list all his sights and bad luck see Ken Dryden. 1976 Canada Cup.
But I'll post some stats
Remember that Rogie played on the worst team in the league for a lot of his career
All these guys had much better players in front of them.
Rogie was the reason the LA Kings won games.

Career stats of best goalies of his time
Tony Esposito – 886 games played, 423 wins, 306 losses, 151 ties, 2.92 gaa, 76 shutouts
Rogie Vachon – 795 games played, 355 wins, 291 losses, 127 ties, 2.99 gaa, 51 shutouts
Eddie Giacomin – 609 games played, 289 wins, 209 losses, 96 ties, 2.87 gaa, 54 shutouts
Gerry Cheevers – 418 games played, 230 wins, 102 losses, 74 ties, 2.83 gaa, 26 shutouts

Playoff stats

Tony Esposito – 99 games played, 45 wins, 53 losses, 3.07 gaa, 6 shutouts
Gerry Cheevers – 88 games played, 53 wins, 34 losses, 2.69 gaa, 8 shutouts
Eddie Giacomin – 66 games played, 29 wins, 35 losses, 2.81 gaa, 1 shutout
Rogie Vachon – 48 games played, 23 wins, 23 losses, 2.77 gaa, 2 shutouts

Even if I give you this point, I'm still not sure why it would/should matter anyway. The Hall of Fame is for the best players, not the best players after accounting for physical shortcomings... obviously a more extreme situation but you don't hear anyone talk about Pete Gray when they talk about the greatest ballplayers of all time. Or Jim Abbott if you prefer someone who is at least HoF eligible
I don't think it matters so much as it just appears more impressive. Which is fine.

Espo with 151 ties...I miss a stat line like that.

Good post Dave, although I would add that Marcel Dionne was also a big reason the Kings won games.

Down Goes Brown: 5 active players that are tough Hall calls - Sportsnet.ca

We've got some interesting discussions coming up in the next few years. All the names he lists are definitely fence sitters to me. Datsyuk seems like a slam dunk, but his case against him is a lot stronger than I ever expected. Doan would be a no to me...when you have to cite "heart and soul" there probably wasn't enough going on on the ice to give him HoF nod. Elias I'd probably say no as well. Luo is a yes. Marleau...probably no?

Doan for me is a no, I mean, did he ever lead the league in anything during his career (aside from dirty hits from behind that somehow escaped DOPS supplementary discipline).

*twitch* I was attempting to be diplomatic in my answer, but glad I'm not alone in this.

Doan shouldn't be allowed into the HHOF, even if he buys a ticket. I wouldn't want that guy setting an example for any kids who might be there.

His highest goal total is any one season is 31, his highest point total in any one season is 78, the HHOF is already watered down enough, although maybe it could use some holy water from the Christian Doan.

Yup. He's been a very good player in the league. But he's played 20 seasons and never once been PPG. If he gets in something is very wrong.

I might want to see it just to say the HHOF has been DOAN'ed!

I like when the cesspool has HOF induction discussion with Ferraro ... he completely loses it on guys ... he was asking yesterday how many years did Rogie Vachon need to finally be elected

in past years he has basically said I scored 408 goals ... what about me lol

I think Dave Andreychuk should be in, 640 career goals is a boatload which included a 53 goal season and two seasons of 40+ goals. He'll just have to wait a little bit, but he'll eventually make it.

Much speculation in Russian media that #Stars Nichuskhkin is returning to Traktor Chelyabisnk of #KHL. Will see where this goes.

Congrats to Makarov, Quinn, Lindros and Vachon for getting to the Hall of Fame yesterday. Surprised Recchi didn't get in though.

I really think he can succeed in the right place...was hoping Dallas would move him.
