I'm thinking either Recchi or Makarov gets bumped in favor of Paul Kariya.

Not saying it's fair (because it's not), but Makarov definitely is getting hurt by his limited time in the NHL. His Scrooge McDuck sized pile of gold should definitely get him in though.
Theo Fleury should get in before Kariya.

Hall of Fame Class of 2016 gets announced later today. I'm thinking Eric Lindros, Mark Recchi, Sergei Makarov and Dave Andreychuk will get inducted.

I like all 4, but I have a feeling Eric does not get in (again).

People sometimes forget that it is the Hockey Hall of Fame, not the NHL Hall of Fame, and this is not to denigrate Lindros' NHL career which was pretty durn good, but he was dominant in junior as well. I hope he gets in.

Theo Fleury should get in before Kariya.
Why? Their careers are surprisingly similar:
- Kariya is exactly a PPG player (989) and Fleury just barely over (1088 in 1084) - I think Kariya gets some extra love because he definitely spent more of his career in the Dead Puck era, but Fleury obviously crosses the symbolic 1000 point threshold
- both played in the all star game 7 times, but Kariya has a much better record with year-end all-star selections
- Neither won any of the big awards, but Kariya does have a couple Lady Byngs on his resume
- Both won WJC gold
- Both were on the 2002 goal medal team in SLC
- Kariya also has gold and silver in WC vs. silver only for Fleury and an additional Olympic silver, while Fleury can offset with a silver in the World Cup and a gold in the Canada Cup

I think people are starting to cool on him (in the good way). Given that a lot of the people that get to vote are people that he pissed off in a big way, it hurt his chances earlier on. With time, people are letting go of the personal dislike and looking at the career achievements instead.

Theo was over a PPG in the playoffs (and won a Cup), while Kariya was .85.

Theo was also a small guy playing a big guy's game. There's something to be said for his production level despite his obvious disadvantage.

Not saying one player was better than the other, and both had careers cut shorter than they should've been by very different means, but I think Theo should get the nod if it's a competition between him and Kariya.

Well, it shouldn't hurt Theo's chances having Lanny McDonald as HHOF chairman.

And Makarov should already be there for the same reason.

Yeah it's a lot easier for a big guy like Kariya

He's bigger than Theo by quite a bit, even if he's not the typical hockey player height. Theo is held up with guys like MSL as "little guys that could".

Even if I give you this point, I'm still not sure why it would/should matter anyway. The Hall of Fame is for the best players, not the best players after accounting for physical shortcomings... obviously a more extreme situation but you don't hear anyone talk about Pete Gray when they talk about the greatest ballplayers of all time. Or Jim Abbott if you prefer someone who is at least HoF eligible
