Hank was also dreadful in his very first career playoff series. It would have been very easy for the Rags to similarly say "this is a 7th round pick who overachieved without a full regular season workload and was exposed in the tough grind of the playoffs"
Yes.

He was also, what, 24? Greiss is 30.

But that was my entire original point lol - the goalie market could be ripe for the picking due to the expansion draft thus maybe an upgrade won't take big value.

The young guys aren't going to be given away, and the old guys (even if they don't cost as much in trade, which I'm not sure I agree is the case) will take up cap space they need to fill other holes.

You just told me how great Tim Thomas was
He was. Roloson had a few good years too post-Edmonton run. Even had another playoff run with Tampa 5 years ago.

Those examples are few and far between. Like I said, maybe Greiss is the answer. More likely he isn't.

Then I guess they're stuck with what they have.

We'll see where they're at come May.

Here's another question... has either Martin Jones or Matt Murray ever had a series as good as the one Greiss had in the first round?

I mean, there are enough sample size issues when looking at playoff data in the first place without whittling it down even further.

You know what the difference between Murray's .895 SV% Conference Finals win and Griess's second round loss is? Less than one save.

As was my whole point though, you don't need him to be as good as Thomas was to win. So yeah, I don't disagree that it's pretty unlikely that he's Thomas. I just don't think they necessarily need that to win.

And related to all of this, is there somewhere where you can see playoff stats broken out by series? I had assumed that hockeyreference would be set up this way since the baseball version is (and I kind of thought hockeyref used to be that way too before the site redesign), but no dice.

I guess Greiss just has to make a longer run in next year's playoffs then, because Murray's other three series sv%'s was .955, .926 and .928.

Sadly, no. Had to use game logs and maths for everything :mad2:

Which leaves him at .923 overall for this year's postseason, or exactly the same as Greiss.

In fact Greiss, Murray and Halak's career postseason save percentages are actually all within one point of another (Halak is at .924).

Except having played another ten games, including 6 in the Stanley Cup Final.

Also, Halak's never been the starter for a team past the first round save the run with MTL.

Which of those team results was his fault?

Murray has never even played a game save the run this year. I mean, how we can count one bad series as meaningful for Greiss and cast aside an entire good playoffs for Halak?

Anyway, we've dragged this on long enough.

Draft today, I'm expecting a lot of trades today. Subban I think will be dealt as well as Fleury and Shattenkirk.
