Keith Yandle has agreed to terms with the Florida Panthers: seven years and $6.35 million average per season

Jarmo Kekeleinen just looked nervously at Seth Jones.

I think it's kinda funny that the Panthers just got out of that Brian Campbell contract and now they've inked Yandle to a similar contract.

So Las Vegas got the team, I'm not in favor of it all but it is what is. Going to be interesting to see who they pick, how the team does and if hockey in Vegas works. Also which city gets team #32?

Seattle will eventually get team #32 (once they get a NBA team). The league functioned for several years in the 80s with 21 teams, I'm sure they can function just fine with 31 teams.

It wouldn't shock me if by the time Seattle gets an NBA team the NBA team owners insert a clause barring an NHL team from using their arena. Why compete for viewers and other revenue streams?

Given that this is the NHL, I'm expecting actually that they'll add a team in QC and give us an Eastern Conference with 17 teams - 9 in the Atlantic and 8 in the Metro - and a Western Conference with 15 teams - 8 and 7.

Nah...will just move DET back to the West.

while the Chris Hansen arena proposal/mou to the city always said ...nba team first ... i think the talk was the venture would only be successful with 2 tenants (and I dont think the wbna team counted - lol) ... yet Hansen didnt want any part of owning an NHL team :noidea:

also ... file this away for possible future reference ... the links between Bill Foley and Seattle are strong

I should've expanded, because this is more what I meant.

In addition to an NBA team maybe not wanting to share the winter market, I just see the triple threat of an expansion fee, start-up costs and an arena rental in which whoever does wind up owning an NHL club probably doesn't wind up with a lot of the secondary revenue an arena generates (if any at all), and then throw in a young franchise battling against another young franchise that plays in an exponentially more popular league and I think it would be a massive risk for an owner to take.

But...but...Young Crosby?!?
Even if he turns into Old Crosby...or Adult Crosby...or whatever, that defence. Those awful contracts. The lack of a supporting cast.

Throw into the mix the fact that teams like making "big splashes" before opening new barns and Detroit's recent big splashes have been Stephen Weiss and Mike Green, I'm glad to have them in the aptly-named Atlantic div.

They will add one team and move two others to balance it. Sea, Milwaukee or KC and Quebec.

Carolina and Florida move.

/that's my best prognostication

He should have taken public speaking classes.

He's worth a shit-ton of money. He doesn't need public speaking classes.

Well, he's trying to generate excitement to justify his investment. And he often sounds like a slow kid on 'ludes trying to explain thermodynamics to a rock.

I wish I could find video of the NHL Network interview last night.

Only two years to convince JT to stick around. Isles are on the clock.

The need a goaler. They need two scoring wingers. They're pretty good on defence but playing in a division with Sid, Ovie, Kessel etc. they could always use a true 1D (who couldn't). If Snow doesn't go for broke now he never will.

They don't need a goalie. They have Halak, Griess & 4 young goalies in the system.

They're going nowhere with Halak and Griess and prospects are prospects. If they want to contend next year, they need better goaltending.

What they need is more speed at forward. Another mobile defenseman to go with Leddy would be nice to. The goaltending will be fine.
