Only way Leafs move for Lindholm is if they move Gardiner first (something tells me neither Gardiner nor Anaheim would be too keen on each other). Too many left shots to accommodate everybody.

I'd love to see Lindholm on the Leafs though. I just think they know they need to spend salary cap space on a top right handed D at some point and adding Hampus' eventual contract will make that very difficult to do.

I don't know if handedness matters quite as much when talking about the difference between playing a stud like Lindholm 25 minutes a night and playing Frankie Corrado 25 minutes a night. Ideally you'd like everyone playing their "correct" side, but I think if you have a chance to have Rielly, Gardiner and Lindholm all on your blueline you say "hell yes" and figure it out.

It would be a very anti-Babcock move. He's all about the "correct" side stuff.

That's quite the belligerent post on a Monday morning (it's still Monday morning here on the West Coast). Also, the only time Bieksa is truculent is when he can pick his spot or jump a guy, otherwise he's ducking for cover.

So, the Pens home opener/banner raising is October 13th...hosting the Caps. Chances Ovechkin kills someone?

I know that BBB, and I dont generally disagree with that idea. But as I implied before, it's easier to stick to those principles when you're deciding between P.K. Subban and Duncan Keith.

It's fun to occasionally look back on a deal (and especially ironic because this deal was struck by the former GM and current GM at his former position):

Jordan Staal to CAR for #8 pick (Derrick Pouliot), Brandon Sutter, and Brian Dumoulin

which leads to

Brandon Sutter, 3rd rounder to VAN for Nick Bonino, Adam Clendening, 2nd rounder

Clendening was a toss in on the Hagelin trade, but I won't count that seeing as it wasn't really substantial. But, just want to take a moment and thank Jordan Staal for turning down that 10 year deal.

Seems to be something of a Staal trademark. Peak early, land a big deal, and then watch the usefulness plummet.

The Leafs only have 1 righty d-man. I doubt Babcock isn't pushing for more righties and would ask to lose a lefty if they bring in Lindholm and given his cap hit that lefty would undoubtedly be Jake.

The Leafs have the resources to make any trade they want happen at this point, so it's a safe assumption they're going to get their $50 million coach the players he says he needs.

What's kind of interesting is looking at his stats, they're not too far off of what he was in Pittsburgh. The difference being that in Pittsburgh he was a third line center putting up respectable third line numbers. That and he suddenly became an injury prone guy, which was NEVER the case in Pittsburgh outside of the Subban skate incident. I guess it's easy to forget about him when he went to a market that's simply not on the national scope. Last year he put up 20-28-48pts, which is on par with his average from the PIT years. His outlier season was 25-25-50pts (in 62 games) in 2011-12 right before the trade. But still, 50 points is his career high. Kinda unreal the return the Pens garnered for a 50 point guy (I guess he was always tabbed as a two-way Selke kinda guy).

That's pretty much it right there. People thought after his first year in Pittsburgh that he'd be in the Bergeron class of guy, but it never came close to materializing.

How crazy is it that Staal is only $800K less per year than Bergeron?

I think there were definitely a few years where he was playing Selke worthy, but again, what matchups was he getting on the third line? Sure there were times he was deployed against top lines, but more often than not (because Bylsma was immune to line matching) he faced lesser competition. I was very convinced he was a shoe in for a Selke or two in his career, but I don't think I was taking team affect into account.

Zaitsev, Carrick and Corrado are all RH shots, no?

Forgot about Zaitsev but Carrick is probably still AHL this year.

I guess I was thinking that if having 3 RH defensemen next year is a big enough factor to exclude a future Norris candidate like Lindholm from trade negotiations it would also be a big enough factor to push Carrick into the NHL lineup

If you go back to my original post I said if they got Lindholm it likely meant they'd deal Jake.

I'm sure you'd be alright with that for a future Norris candidate though, no?

And I'll repeat myself as well...I'd rather keep them both and play someone on the off side if that's what's necessary to do it.

I'd be OK with the idea of trading Gardiner the same way I'd be OK with the idea of trading pretty much anyone. But I don't think that the return would be right.
