He would net them a literal fuck-ton.

But in that case, they might as well trade Price, Patches, basically everyone over the age of 23. I don't know if they have the guts to do that but I also don't know if they have any idea how to build a coherent offence.

That's where I hold a small glimmer of hope for the Flames down the road, offensively the team is okay (they need 1 or 2 more skilled wingers), but generally speaking they score enough goals. They need a goalie.

Nice, Coach T in is his English press conference:

“We played a solid game and it’s disappointing that we lost because of an individual mistake.”

Well, if we've learned anything from coach Tortorella (proven winner - tm) it's that blaming everything on your franchise player is never a bad idea.

Therrien absolutely needs to go...Bergevin just painted himself into a corner with his public vote of confidence (which really wasn't necessary). The super talented defensemen in the league like PK and Karlsson create SO MUCH offensively, that those defensive lapses and turnovers are going to happen. Was it a poor choice, given that OT was quickly approaching? Yes. But benching your supremely talented puck handling defenseman when you need a goal late in a game, and then throwing him under the bus, is beyond immature and dumb.

When you consider that Bergevin signed him to a 4 year contract extension just 6 months earlier, it may have been necessary to save his own ass.

Dumb as Therrien is, I blame so much more of this on Bergevin than I do the coach.

I guess that puts it into a different perspective, but I feel like fanbases/critics aren't too critical if you fire a coach pretty quickly, since it's commonplace. But I agree with you about the GM blame.

Calgary still seems like the best bet to get Drouin to me if he isn't moved by the deadline - if Calgary's draft pick winds up in the 5-8 range that may wind up being the best Yzerman can get for him and he could do much worse. In exchange, Calgary gets a guy who should be capable of 20g/50 pts next season.

I could see that happening because Flames fans are always looking for a new whipping boy...

Daaaaaaamn.

He's a #1C still, right?

Not sure Carolina would like Jack Johnson back, though. He always played well with Wiz.

Anyone else think it's going to be a remarkably quiet deadline this year? Seems like GMs are keeping their cards closer than usual this year. Cap stuff hampering the fun too.

Nope. I think there are too many teams who think this could be their year for a run.

Consider that if you assume Washington is destined for the conference finals no matter what, you can make the argument that any of the Atlantic Division teams can consider themselves capable of being their opponent. Not one team that will come out of that division has stuck out; I expect all of them to try and improve somehow.

LA and Chicago both are within their Cup windows still and both have needs so I expect they'll both be active. Argument can be made that 3 other teams in the west (STL, Dallas, Anaheim) have reason to believe they can keep up with those two so they'll all be looking for something (scoring for STL and Anaheim, defence for Dallas).

That right there is about a third of the league looking for additions. Then you get into teams that think with the right move or two they can move into a contention conversation - Pittsburgh, the Isles and Nashville could all conceivably be in that conversation, while teams like Minny, SJ and NYR need to figure out whether they're in it or not.

I think we'll get some good action :)

I mean, I AM expecting the Leafs to help the Pens somehow. YOU WANT THAT PICK THIS YEAR, RIGHT?!

I think JVR would help the Pens big time when healthy but I don't think Pittsburgh has any more assets to give the Leafs lol

I'm sure Lou will be prudent and try to make any trades happen with Western teams over East ones, though.

I'm looking forward to another Leafs - Flames trade where the Flames get fleeced again.

Lou: "I don't know Brian...I don't know if we can do that."
Brian: "I'm telling you Lou, throw in at least six sheep or we're done. I'm hanging up."
Lou: "What...what if we made it a pair of alpaca?"
Brian: "LOU? WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO WITH ME HERE?"
Lou: "Okay, okay...so it's Deryk Engelland for six sheep, 10 packs of TimBits, and Rich Clune."
Brian: "Trucul...I mean, excellent."
