I take a couple like that every year in my beer league. It's unpleasant but as I said before its not really an attempt to injure. It's douchey but not all that dangerous.

I'll take your word for it, but personally I can't recall the last time I was crosschecked right up under the helmet like that in men's league, let alone by someone as strong as an NHL player. I'm not even sure it's ever happened to me in 15 years or so of men's league in all honesty.

So Coliaccovo was cross checked in the neck and had his trachea dented...no suspension. Was called a reaction. Can we not hold players accountable for their actions, regardless of intent? Don't dent people's tracheas and maybe we won't have a problem.

Per league disciplinary videos - some players have to be responsible for their actions regardless of intent and others do not.

I think it's just that special consideration is given when ol' Splodey Bones is the victim. You can injure him without even being in the same time zone I think.

Funny you should say that. The incident that I was thinking of as most comparable was during a scrum. I was lightly holding a guy back from getting involved with our goalie when the guy crosschecked me from behind. My centre jumped in and fought the guy and it turned into pretty much a line brawl.

We learned that fighting is an automatic season suspension in our league (we ended up appealing). Because there were several fights the refs apparently forgot, or missed, the crosscheck. THAT guy didn't miss a game.


And for the record I'm OK with the one game suspension just because it was such a dumb, unnecessary act by Dubinsky. Particularly adding the second crosscheck while he's down (which I believe he did because HE thought that Sid was selling the first one). I just don't think it was that hard of a crosscheck or really an intent to injure.

Also as Pix pointed out, a scrub got crosschecked in the trachea and nothing. It's just so inconsistent.
