I think Vinny's career was pretty great. Good numbers, captained a Stanley Cup winning team, and multiple all star.
Also a large portion of his career was in the dead puck clap trap clutch and grab era.

Darryl Sittler, Lanny McDonald, Joey Mullins..... no reason they are there if Vinny isn't. And probably more too

Yeah, I think you hit on it earlier my friend when you mentioned assists where Nieuwy has over 560 goals. 500 goals is still a magic number in my mind.

The three forwards on their way in this class, two of whom are first-ballot, combined for 1077 goals. The only guys born after 1930 to get in with fewer NHL goals than Henrik Sedin were communist bloc players who didn't show up in North America until they were pushing 30 (save one very notable exception).

The criteria is basically whoever voters feel belongs, ya know?
