Just looked at NHL attendance figures and none of the top three teams in the standings are in the top ten in attendance.

This is made worse by the fact that the Canadian teams are all lower because of the limited crowds/closed doors earlier in the season. Vancouver has the highest attendance among Canadian teams at 16th which is just below Carolina's, who I'm sorry but if they aren't selling out by now after a few years of sustained success and contention I don't know when the hell they will.

I like the award for drawing attention to good stories that the league should want to tell (such as Danforth and Forsberg as I said). But every team getting to nominate someone is stupid.

Yeah, I don't mind the Masterton award and agree with 43 that we don't need a nomination from every team. Now, the Mark Messier leadership award is one that should certainly be shitcanned.
