Absolutely, he was a great captain but he wasn't the most vocal. If he was more quotable or had a bigger personality I think he would receive more recognition. But like Dash said he was clutch.
There are all kinds of leaders, and "Quoteless Joe" did his leading on the ice. I think playing in the same era as Messier and Yzerman and on the same team as Roy might keep Sakic out of people's memories as far as great captains go. As a Wings fan I saw plenty of Sakic and what he could do, and I personally consider him to be an equal of Stevie Y in terms of leadership. I know a lot of people don't see it that way, but they were almost the same player.
